If a Nothing Phone (3) update is stuck or fails, first connect to reliable Wi‑Fi, clear enough space in the phone’s internal storage, charge the battery to at least 40%, and leave the phone untouched while installation runs. If you interrupted the process, restart the phone and try again from Settings > System > System Update. Persistent failures, an update that never appears, or a phone that cannot reach Settings require Nothing Support.
These are Nothing’s general over-the-air (OTA) troubleshooting instructions. They are not a Phone (3)-specific recovery procedure, and Nothing’s published guidance does not establish a particular button combination, sideload method, or stable-build rollout date for every region.

Identify where the update is failing
The right first move depends on what you can still do with the phone. A download that is progressing slowly is different from an installation that stopped after rebooting, while a phone that cannot open Settings needs manufacturer assistance rather than more retries.
| What you see | First action | When to escalate |
|---|---|---|
| The update will not download or reports a damaged/incomplete package | Move to a reliable Wi‑Fi connection and retry | Contact Nothing Support if the same package failure returns |
| The update refuses to start | Free internal phone storage and charge the battery to at least 40% | Contact support if the requirements are met but OTA still will not start |
| Installation stopped after you used the phone or pressed the power button | Restart the phone, then retry without touching it during installation | Contact support if the retry fails |
| No update appears in System Update | Check again over Wi‑Fi and confirm the phone is online | Ask Nothing whether the release is available for your market and device |
| The phone is stuck on a boot screen or cannot open Settings | Do not guess at recovery-key combinations or sideload files | Contact Nothing Support for device-specific instructions |
Do not repeatedly force the phone through a failed installation. Each retry should begin with the connection, storage and battery conditions checked, followed by an uninterrupted installation attempt.

1. Use a stable Wi‑Fi connection
Nothing says an unstable network can leave an upgrade package damaged or incomplete. Its online-upgrade guidance recommends downloading the latest Nothing OS software over Wi‑Fi. A weak signal, repeated disconnects or a network that blocks part of the download can make the package unusable even when the progress indicator moved for a while.
Prepare the connection
- Move close enough to the Wi‑Fi access point to maintain a steady signal.
- Connect the Phone (3) to a network that you know can remain online for the entire download.
- Keep Wi‑Fi enabled while the update is checked, downloaded and prepared for installation.
- If the current network repeatedly disconnects, wait until you can use a more reliable Wi‑Fi connection before trying again.
The goal is a complete, intact package. Changing networks while a package is being downloaded can leave you with another incomplete attempt, so start the retry only after the connection is stable.
2. Make room in the phone’s internal storage
The update needs adequate space on the phone to download and install. Nothing’s guidance refers to available phone storage; it does not present an external-storage purchase or accessory as the remedy. Remove or move enough local content that the update can complete its download and installation work.

- Open the phone’s storage settings and look at available internal space.
- Delete downloads, videos or other files you no longer need, or move personal files elsewhere before retrying.
- Uninstall an unused app temporarily if that is the quickest way to create room; you can reinstall it later.
- Empty any applicable trash or recently deleted area so that removed files actually release space.
Nothing does not publish a Phone (3)-specific free-space figure in the cited guidance, so do not treat a particular number as an official minimum. The practical test is whether the phone has enough available internal storage for the update to proceed without reporting a space error.
3. Charge the battery to at least 40%
Nothing states that an OTA upgrade will not be allowed below this threshold: “Ensure that your phone’s battery is no less than 40%; otherwise the system will not allow OTA upgrade.” Charge the Phone (3) to 40% or higher before starting the retry.

Use the threshold as a starting requirement
- Check the percentage shown by the battery indicator before selecting install.
- If the phone is close to 40%, charge it beyond the threshold rather than beginning immediately at the limit.
- Keep the phone connected to power if that is practical, while following the on-screen instructions.
The 40% figure is an operating requirement from Nothing, not a claim about how long an update should take or how quickly the battery will drain. Meeting it removes one known block; it does not guarantee that a damaged download or storage problem has been fixed.
4. Do not interrupt the installation
Once installation begins, leave the phone alone. Nothing’s online-upgrade instructions say to wait patiently and not press the power button or perform actions during the upgrade. Using the phone, powering it off or otherwise interrupting the process can leave the attempt unfinished.
During installation
- Start the installation only when you can leave the phone undisturbed.
- Do not press the power button simply because the screen appears inactive.
- Do not open apps, disconnect the phone from its network unnecessarily or attempt another update action while the installer is working.
- Wait for the phone to complete its own restart or return to the normal system interface.
A long pause is not, by itself, proof that the update has failed. If the phone is still showing an installation screen, the safest action covered by Nothing’s guidance is patience rather than repeated button presses.
5. Restart after an interrupted attempt, then retry
If you already pressed the power button, used the phone during installation or otherwise interrupted the process, Nothing’s OTA troubleshooting guidance says to restart and try again. Restarting clears the interrupted session; it does not substitute for the Wi‑Fi, storage and battery checks.
- Allow the phone to return to a usable state if it can do so normally.
- Restart the Phone (3) using the normal on-screen power controls.
- Reconnect to reliable Wi‑Fi.
- Confirm that internal storage is adequate and the battery is at least 40%.
- Open Settings > System > System Update and start the update again.
- Leave the phone untouched for the entire installation.
If the phone completes the restart but the same failure appears again, stop repeating the cycle and move to support escalation. Multiple failed attempts do not create a Phone (3)-specific recovery method.

6. Check for the update from System Update
Use Settings > System > System Update to check for an available release. Nothing recommends Wi‑Fi for the online upgrade, so perform the check while connected to a stable wireless network.

An absent update is not necessarily an installation fault. Rollouts can differ by device and market, and the cited Nothing pages do not establish which stable build is available to every Phone (3) owner at a particular time. Do not infer a universal release schedule from another owner’s phone.
- Check System Update again with the phone online over Wi‑Fi.
- Confirm that the phone has not just completed an installation and is waiting for a normal restart.
- If you believe your device should have received a release but no update appears, ask Nothing Support to verify availability for your market and device.
Support can distinguish a staged rollout from a failed update check. Nothing’s published material does not provide a universal regional schedule that can be applied to every Phone (3).
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Nothing OS version and beta context
Nothing’s Phone (3) operating-system information identifies Nothing OS 3.3 based on Android 15. Nothing’s current OS page also mentions Nothing OS 5.0 Open Beta and warns that beta software may contain bugs or affect stability, battery life and performance.
Those references do not prove that a particular stable or beta build is available to every Phone (3) owner, nor do they establish a rollout date for your region. Treat the version shown on your own System Update screen as the relevant offer. If you are considering a beta, understand that the stated stability, battery and performance warnings are part of the choice; joining a beta is not a fix for a failed stable OTA installation.

When to stop troubleshooting and contact Nothing Support
Contact Nothing Support after the basic sequence fails: reliable Wi‑Fi, adequate internal storage, battery at or above 40%, a restart after any interruption and one careful retry through System Update.
Escalate immediately in these cases
- The phone remains stuck on a boot screen and cannot reach Settings.
- The installation fails repeatedly even though the connection, storage and battery conditions are met.
- The device reports that no update is available when you believe your Phone (3) should be eligible.
- The phone cannot complete a normal restart after the interrupted attempt.
The consulted Nothing guidance does not give a Phone (3)-specific recovery path for a device stuck at boot or unable to open Settings. Do not invent a button sequence, flash an unverified package or assume that a factory reset is required. Ask Nothing for instructions that match the exact state of your device.
Information to include in a support request
Describe the point at which the process stops and the exact message shown on screen. Include whether the failure occurred during download, preparation, installation or reboot; whether you had used the phone or pressed the power button; whether the phone is connected to Wi‑Fi; and whether the battery is at least 40%. Also state that you checked internal storage and provide the update version displayed in Settings > System > System Update, if that screen is accessible.
This information lets support separate a damaged download from a storage or battery block, an interrupted installation, a staged rollout or a device that needs a different recovery procedure.
Quick Recap
Actions to avoid
- Do not keep pressing the power button while the installation screen is active.
- Do not assume that external storage will solve a shortage of phone storage; Nothing’s instruction concerns available internal phone space.
- Do not claim a particular stable build or rollout date applies to every Phone (3) without confirmation for your market.
- Do not use a recovery-mode key sequence or manual sideload package that Nothing has not specified for your device.
- Do not treat the 40% battery requirement as a guarantee that every update will install; it is the minimum OTA threshold stated by Nothing.
A compact retry checklist
- Connect the Nothing Phone (3) to reliable Wi‑Fi.
- Check and free internal phone storage if necessary.
- Charge the battery to at least 40%.
- If the previous attempt was interrupted, restart the phone.
- Open Settings > System > System Update.
- Begin the update and do not press the power button or use the phone while installation runs.
- If it fails again, or if the phone cannot reach Settings, contact Nothing Support rather than attempting an undocumented recovery procedure.
