To check now, open Settings > System > System update. The release is phased, so not seeing it yet does not mean your phone is ineligible.
How to check for Nothing OS 5.0
- Connect your Phone (3) to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings > System > System update.
- Follow the on-screen instructions if the update is offered. Nothing says to avoid pressing the power button or performing other actions while the upgrade is in progress.
Nothing also says an available update triggers a notification. Its general support instructions give an alternate check: open Settings > About phone > Software info; a red icon appears next to the Nothing OS label when an update is available. That general-support route is separate from the release announcement’s System update path. Nothing support: update notifications and checks.

Why the update may not appear yet
Nothing announced the Phone (3) general release on October 12, 2026, but says rollout timing is phased by region and device, and by carrier where applicable. Availability can therefore differ between Phone (3) owners. If System update does not offer OS 5.0, check again later rather than treating that as proof your handset is excluded. Nothing has not published a complete per-region arrival schedule for individual phones.

Essential Space updates are delivered separately through Google Play, with some pieces scheduled after general release; Essential Apps Builder access is in early beta and rolling out gradually. The general-release announcement does not establish that every feature will be active as soon as the OS update installs.

What Nothing OS 5.0 changes
Nothing describes the update as a mix of visual changes, added personalisation, Essential tools, performance refinements and Android 17 capabilities. These are the main areas it highlights:
- Home screen and design: wallpaper-aware colours, tinted app icons, transparent widgets, a new Geist typeface, updated icons and refreshed layouts in Settings, Camera, Gallery and the Status Bar.
- Personalisation and Glyph: Gooey and Micrographics clock faces, a Glyph Timer, a Glyph app for centralised controls, Collector stickers and Away Time tracking for breaks.
- Essential tools: Smart Collections and improved search and capture flow in Essential Space, improvements to Essential Voice, and the ability to build Essential Apps from natural-language descriptions. Access to some of these tools is separate or gradual, as noted above.
- Controls and performance: redesigned Bluetooth controls and home-screen batch editing. Nothing also says it has improved app launches, scrolling, touch response, multitasking and memory management; it does not provide measured speed figures in the release material.
- Android 17 features: separate Notification and Quick Settings panels, Quick Share with a QR-code or web-link option for iPhone and other devices, and improved privacy indicators and permission controls, alongside other interface and media changes.
What is not yet specified
Nothing’s published release details do not state the stable general-release build number or download size, and they do not give a precise arrival date for every region or carrier. The OS page’s beta prerequisite is for beta eligibility, not confirmation of the stable release build. Treat availability as dependent on the staged rollout, and use the update screen on your own phone to check.
