For noise cancellation first, the Sony WH-1000XM6 is the safer choice based on the available reviews. T3’s reviewer said the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro improves on its predecessor but still falls short of the Sony. That is one reviewer’s judgment, not a controlled head-to-head measurement. Choose Nothing if its design and features—especially USB-C lossless playback and Auracast—matter more to you, and check the local price before buying.
Which one has better noise cancellation?
The strongest direct comparative judgment in the available reviews favors Sony. T3 reviewer Max Freeman-Mills wrote that the Nothing Pro “blocks more noise” than its predecessor but “still falls short of the best I’ve used in this price bracket (which remains Sony’s WH-1000XM6).” That is a listening review, not a standardized test of both headphones under the same conditions. Nothing advertises ANC of up to 46 dB, ten microphones and a new silicone sound seal. Sony’s May 16, 2025 Australian launch release describes 12 microphones, its HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3 and real-time adaptive optimization. Microphone counts and Nothing’s maximum-decibel claim do not establish which headphone cancels more noise in a real environment. Sony’s launch release also makes a “best noise cancelling” claim based on its own research; that is manufacturer evidence, not an independent current ranking. TechRadar’s reviewer was impressed by the Nothing Pro’s high ANC setting and transparency mode. If possible, try the fit and cancellation yourself: seal and comfort can affect how useful ANC feels, and the reviews do not provide matched measurements for commuting, office noise or aircraft cabins. How do battery life and charging compare?
| Model | Published playback figure | Conditions and caveats |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing Headphone (1) Pro | Up to 68 hours with ANC off; five-minute charge claimed to provide up to four hours of playback | Nothing’s lab figure is at 50% volume, AAC and default feature settings at 25°C. The fast-charge figure is also for ANC-off playback. T3 estimates 30 hours with ANC on. |
| Sony WH-1000XM6 | Up to 30 hours with noise cancelling on; up to 40 hours off | Sony’s official specification lists continuous music playback. It separately lists communications time of up to 24 hours with NC on and 28 hours off. |
These figures are not directly comparable laboratory results: Nothing states test conditions for its ANC-off figure, while the quoted Sony page specifies its maximum continuous music playback. Volume, calls, source, wireless conditions and enabled features can affect actual runtime. Nothing’s official product specifications · Sony WH-1000XM6 official specifications · T3 review
What are the audio, wired-listening and connectivity differences?
- Sony: Its specification lists SBC, AAC, LDAC and LC3 codecs, Bluetooth 5.3, multipoint and passive wired operation with a detachable single-sided cable. It lists a maximum charge time of 3.5 hours. Sony’s official specifications
- Nothing: Its product information promotes LDAC, USB-C lossless playback up to 24-bit/192kHz and Auracast broadcasting. Launch coverage also reports five head-tracked spatial-audio modes. Availability of codecs, Auracast and spatial features depends on compatible devices, platforms and playback setup; a feature label alone does not guarantee that every source can use it. Nothing’s official product page · TechRadar launch coverage
If you want to listen over a cable, check the workflow you actually need. Sony explicitly lists passive operation and a detachable cable; Nothing’s cited coverage emphasizes USB-C digital audio. Those are different connection approaches, not proof that one will suit every wired source.

Which is more comfortable and practical to carry?
T3 found the Nothing Pro’s headband and earcup padding plusher and its headphone body lighter than the earlier Nothing Headphone (1). The reviewer also criticized its supplied case as bulky and short on room for accessories. Those are one reviewer’s impressions, and comfort varies with head shape and fit. T3 review

How to choose between them
- Choose Sony WH-1000XM6 if noise cancellation is your priority: the comparative review evidence favors it, while recognizing that this is not a standardized head-to-head test.
- Consider Nothing Headphone (1) Pro if you prefer its design and want features such as USB-C lossless playback or Auracast, provided your devices support the features you plan to use.
- For either model, weigh battery figures using the mode and conditions you expect, try the fit if long-session comfort is important, and compare current local pricing rather than relying on launch prices.
