Power release confirming the 2026 appliance ranking was not available in the sources reviewed. The distinction matters because J.D. Power’s official 2026 home-improvement retailer study is a separate survey with different leaders.
Which retailer reportedly ranked highest for appliance satisfaction in 2026?
A July 2026 secondary report lists Best Buy first, Costco second and The Home Depot third among appliance retailers. It gives the retailers scores of 726, 718 and 714, respectively, on a 1,000-point scale. These figures are reported by that article and have not been independently confirmed against a J.D. Power release; treat them as reported results, not a verified official ranking. J.D. Power’s official 2026 release found here covers home-improvement retailers, not appliance retailers.

The secondary article also attributes 28,411 evaluations to the 2026 study, but that sample figure has not been independently verified and is not established here.
Why is there a different 2026 J.D. Power ranking with Home Depot?
J.D. Power’s official 2026 U.S. Home Improvement Retailer Satisfaction Study ranked Menards first with 690 points, The Home Depot second with 679, and Ace Hardware third. The overall home-improvement retailer satisfaction score was 672. The survey included 2,231 customers who had purchased home-improvement products from a retailer in the preceding 12 months, and was fielded from March 2025 through March 2026. J.D. Power’s 2026 home-improvement study announcement describes that separate ranking.

Its scope included additional services, digital tools, trust, people, products and supplies, returns, store or facility experience, and value for price paid. Those categories do not make it an appliance-retailer ranking: the study titles and populations are different, so the results should not be conflated.
How have appliance-retailer leaders changed?
Official prior-year appliance results show that the top retailer has changed between editions. The 2024 study placed Costco first and The Home Depot second; the 2025 study put The Home Depot first and Best Buy second. The 2026 Best Buy result remains a secondary report unless confirmed by J.D. Power.

What does an appliance-retailer satisfaction score tell you?
These scores are study-specific satisfaction indices on a 1,000-point scale. A retailer’s position is an aggregate survey result, not a guarantee that every customer will have the same experience, and it is not a direct rating of the appliances the retailer sells. Scores are most meaningful when compared within the same study year and segment.
