J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Tech Experience Index named the GMC Hummer EV SUV the premium-segment model award recipient for active lane change assist. That is a recognition for one model and one technology—not a declaration that GMC led every premium brand in driver-assistance technology.
What J.D. Power awarded
The award recognizes the GMC Hummer EV SUV for active lane change assist in the premium segment. J.D. Power’s announcement describes a model-level technology award; it does not name GMC the overall winner across driver-assistance systems. J.D. Power’s 2025 TXI announcement lists technology award recipients by segment and feature.

Why this is different from the premium-brand ranking
The TXI also ranks brands for overall innovation, a separate result from its individual model-and-technology awards. In the 2025 premium-brand ranking, Genesis scored 538 out of 1,000, Cadillac 526 and Lincoln 523, according to J.D. Power’s press release. BMW is listed at 511 in the published study document.

Those brand innovation scores are not scores for active lane change assist. They do not establish how the Hummer’s system compares technically with a BMW system, and they should not be used to rank the two vehicles’ driver-assistance features.

How the 2025 TXI evaluates vehicle technology
J.D. Power’s Tech Experience Index covers 40 technologies across comfort and convenience, connected vehicle, driver assist, electric vehicle and smart vehicle categories. Smart vehicle technologies were not eligible for awards in 2025.
The study considers both technology adoption and owner experience: how much owners like the technologies and how many problems they report while using them. J.D. Power senior director of user experience benchmarking and technology Kathleen Rizk said, “Ultimately, what matters most to vehicle owners—and therefore to automakers and suppliers—is how useful the technology is and whether it enhances their driving experience.”

Who took part in the study
J.D. Power says the 2025 TXI is based on responses from 76,230 owners of new 2025 model-year vehicles, surveyed after 90 days of ownership. Fieldwork ran from June 2024 through May 2025 and covered vehicles registered from March 2024 through February 2025. These dates describe the study’s sample and fieldwork, not a guarantee that the award applies to every Hummer EV model year or configuration.

The announcement does not specify which Hummer EV trims or model years include active lane change assist, explain how the system operates, or compare it directly with a BMW system. Check current GMC documentation for feature availability and operating limits for a specific vehicle.

For a fair comparison, match the study year, award type, vehicle segment, named technology and owner-experience basis. A model receiving an award for one feature and a brand placing in an overall innovation ranking answer different questions; neither result alone settles which brand has the best driver-assistance technology overall.
