Aftergods is a newly announced top-down “survivalite” action RPG from Norsfell, planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. It is set after Ragnarok and pairs action combat with survival crafting, mythic bosses, shapeshifting, and solo or cooperative play. No release date has been announced; Steam lists the game as “To be announced.”
What is Aftergods?
Norsfell describes Aftergods as an evolution of the studio’s work on Tribes of Midgard, as well as a new game that moves beyond Norse mythology. In its announcement, Norsfell creative director Julian Maroda said the team was interested in how different legends connect and in imagining a world where the gods lose their divinity. Setting and story premise
The game takes place in a handcrafted open world after Ragnarok. Players are Godborn—descendants of gods who survived the cataclysm—and set out to restore the shattered Seeds of the World Tree and rebalance the cosmos. Norsfell says the announced pantheons include Greek, Egyptian, and Norse traditions, alongside traditions yet to be discovered. Players will be able to choose lineages and classes. The Steam listing also summarizes the post-Ragnarok premise.

The announced design combines several systems rather than focusing on combat alone. These are features described by Norsfell, not independently tested gameplay observations.

Combat, survival, and Nectar
Norsfell lists top-down action combat, survival crafting, and mythic boss battles. A resource called Nectar is scarce: when a Godborn runs out, they revert to a vulnerable mortal form. The announcement does not provide further detail about how Nectar is replenished or how that change affects individual encounters.
Followers, crafting, and bases
Followers can help with base building, crafting, harvesting, and storage. These support roles connect survival and resource gathering to the player’s settlement, though the announcement does not specify the full progression system or the number of followers available.

Shapeshifting and traversal
Players can shapeshift into mythical creatures to travel across terrain, water, and air. Norsfell has not yet specified which creatures are available or how their abilities differ.

Yes, according to Norsfell’s announcement: the game is intended for solo or cooperative play, with online and offline options. The announcement also names peer-to-peer hosting and dedicated server rentals. It does not say how many players a cooperative session supports, or provide details about server availability or hosting costs.
