NordVPN is a strong choice for most people who want a paid VPN in 2026. Its main advantages are independently reviewed no-logs practices, a wide feature set, and independent 2026 reviews that rate its speed and streaming access highly. It is not the best fit for everyone, and its headline price applies only to the first term. The sections below explain what the evidence does and does not show, so you can decide whether it matches your needs.
What a VPN subscription does and does not do
A VPN routes your traffic through its server and hides your IP address from the websites and services you visit. It also encrypts traffic between your device and that server. It does not make you anonymous. If you log into a personal account or post under your real name, the service you are using still knows who you are, and a VPN has no effect on that. Treat a VPN as one privacy tool among several.

What the NordVPN subscription includes
According to NordVPN’s official 2026 review page, one subscription covers 10 devices. The VPN itself masks your IP address and encrypts traffic to a VPN server. The security bundle adds a kill switch, malware scanning, malicious-link protection, dark web monitoring, and post-quantum encryption. Those tools are separate from the VPN, and higher plan tiers add security and account features. Check which tier includes which tool before you buy, because bundle contents vary by plan and market.
Protocols and apps
Security.org’s 2026 review lists AES-256 or ChaCha20 encryption, the OpenVPN protocol, WireGuard via NordLynx, and NordWhisper. It reports apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, and browser extensions. Feature availability is not identical on every platform. TechRadar’s 2026 review notes differences between apps, so confirm that the feature you need exists on the device you plan to use.

What the no-logs evidence shows
A no-logs policy means the provider says it does not keep records of user activity. Independent verification is the key question. NordVPN says its no-logs claim has been reviewed independently six times. In February 2026 the company said Deloitte Lithuania carried out an assurance engagement, commissioned at the end of 2025, covering its server infrastructure, configurations, and deployment processes. The engagement followed the ISAE 3000 (Revised) framework, included employee interviews, and covered standard VPN, Double VPN, obfuscated, and Onion Over VPN servers.
Two limits apply. This is an assurance report as NordVPN describes it. The full report was not reviewed for this article, so the claim rests on the company’s account. An assurance engagement also tests what it was scoped to test. It does not make NordVPN equivalent to a guarantee of anonymity, and it does not mean the company can never know anything about its users. The accurate statement is that NordVPN says its no-logs practices have passed six independent reviews.

Speed and streaming: what independent reviewers found
Speed and streaming results depend on the reviewer’s method, the server chosen, your location, and the date of the test. The table below lists the figures published by TechRadar in its 2026 review. They are TechRadar’s ratings, not guarantees, and this article did not run its own speed tests.

TechRadar’s 2026 best-VPN guide names NordVPN its best VPN for most people, based on a review it says was refreshed in early April 2026. The same guide reports speed observations for NordLynx and OpenVPN. Treat those numbers as context from one publisher, not as a benchmark you will reproduce on your own connection.

The lack of port forwarding matters if you rely on specific peer-to-peer or hosting setups. For ordinary torrenting it is less of a barrier, but it is a real limitation to check against your use.
Price: the first term is not the long-run cost
NordVPN’s headline price applies to the introductory term. Compare three figures before you buy: the monthly price, the upfront total, and the renewal total. The figures below are TechRadar’s 2026 U.S. pricing for the Basic plan. They are not universal and may have changed, so confirm them at checkout.

The renewal total is roughly three times the introductory monthly price on average. If you expect to keep the service beyond the first term, budget for the renewal figure rather than the introductory one.

- Independent no-logs evidence and its scope, including which servers were covered.
- Protocols, leak protection, and whether the kill switch works on your platform.
- Speed and streaming results under a named test method and date.
- Device limit and feature parity across your devices.
- Total upfront price and renewal cost, before tax.
- Whether bundled extras, such as dark web monitoring, are useful to you.
If you need port forwarding for a specific peer-to-peer setup, NordVPN’s lack of it in TechRadar’s testing should move that provider lower on your list. If you need the broadest device coverage on one account, check the 10-device limit against your household.
Optional: VPN coverage for devices without VPN apps
Some devices, such as smart TVs, game consoles, and some streaming boxes, cannot run VPN apps. A VPN-compatible router can protect everything connected to it. This is an optional setup, not a requirement for using NordVPN. Router compatibility depends on the model’s protocol and firmware support, and setup steps differ by manufacturer. Confirm that your exact router model supports the VPN service and protocol you plan to use before buying one.
Verdict
NordVPN earns its place as a top choice for most people in 2026 because of its independently reviewed no-logs claim, broad app support, and strong third-party speed and streaming results. The PCMag analyst Max Eddy summed up the service in these terms: “As VPN services go, it’s hard to beat NordVPN. It has a large and diverse collection of servers, an excellent collection of advanced features, strong privacy and security practices, and approachable clients for every major platform.” That is an attributed third-party view, displayed on NordVPN’s own page. Whether NordVPN is the best choice for you depends on your device list, your need for port forwarding, and the renewal price you are willing to pay.
