Yle reported on 8 October 2026, citing HS, that Nokia plans to reduce its Finland workforce by up to 253. The employees affected are in Espoo, Tampere and Oulu. Yle said Nokia had informed employees but had not issued a press release on this plan. Yle’s report says Nokia communications chief Maria Vaismaa confirmed by email that the change-negotiation process had commenced. It does not reproduce her exact words.

How does this relate to Nokia’s broader restructuring?
Nokia’s 23 July 2026 half-year report describes additional restructuring programmes, primarily in Europe, expected to result in EUR 200 million in restructuring charges in 2026. It also describes a separate programme launched in October 2023, with a target of EUR 800 million to EUR 1.2 billion in gross cost savings by the end of 2026. Nokia’s half-year report provides company-wide context, but does not establish that the newly reported Finland plan belongs wholly to either programme.

Nokia’s earlier Finland restructuring round was announced in February 2026 and concluded on 9 April. Eurofound’s European Restructuring Monitor records that the estimated maximum fell from 156 to 121 during negotiations, with 107 final job losses confirmed after talks concluded. That is a separate, completed round—not a final count for the newly reported plan of up to 253. Eurofound’s factsheet documents the earlier round.
