The Nokia DT-903 is a Qi wireless charging plate from the Microsoft Mobile era, introduced in 2014. Its core job is to charge a Qi-compatible phone or other device; its extra illuminated alerts were designed for a narrower set of older Lumia phones. Those two capabilities have different requirements, so a device that can charge on the plate will not necessarily use its smart notifications.
What the Nokia DT-903 is
Microsoft Mobile’s DT-903 User Guide identifies the plate as Qi compliant. Microsoft Devices presented it as a second-generation Nokia wireless charger with Bluetooth Low Energy and ambient-light notifications in its September 4, 2014 accessories announcement. It is a physical charging plate, not a current-generation smart-home accessory.

The plate’s charging function and its Lumia-related smart features should be treated separately: Qi compatibility is the basis for charging, while NFC pairing and phone alerts were documented for particular Lumia-era software and hardware.

- Connect the plate’s USB cable to a compatible charger connected to a wall outlet, or to another suitable USB power source.
- Set the plate face up on a stable surface and leave its charging area clear.
- Place a Qi-compatible phone or other device on the charging area. Check the device maker’s compatibility information if you are unsure whether the device supports Qi charging.
- Watch the indicator: it lights during charging and fades when the device is full.
The guide says the plate may feel warm during charging; it describes this as normal. It does not establish charging wattage or a speed advantage over other chargers.

Which features work with which phones?
Qi charging
The guide says the plate can charge a phone or other device that supports Qi. This is the relevant feature if you want a basic wireless charging surface; it does not depend on the DT-903’s Lumia notification functions.
NFC pairing and Lumia smart alerts
NFC pairing is documented for NFC-supporting Nokia Lumia devices. For smart features such as low-battery and missed-call alerts, the manual specifies a Lumia running Denim (Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1), Device Hub 3.6 or later, and Bluetooth 4.0 or higher. These are historical requirements from the product guide, not confirmation that Device Hub remains available or that alerts can still be set up today.

The guide specifies Bluetooth 4.0 and a paired-device range of up to 10 metres (33 feet); walls and electronic devices may affect the connection. A February 4, 2015 TIME review reported Qi charging and pulsing notifications working with the Lumia 830 and 930 at that time. That contemporary report is not evidence of present-day phone or software support.
What the indicator lights mean

Press the multifunction key once to adjust indicator brightness or dismiss an alert. Hold it for more than eight seconds to clear paired devices. These controls are described in the Microsoft Mobile user guide.

What Microsoft announced at launch
Microsoft Devices announced a planned October 2014 availability in white, bright orange, and bright green at $59 USD / €59. That was the announced launch price, not a current price or an indication of present stock. The announcement’s line that the charger “knows when your Lumia is running out of juice” was promotional copy, not a performance measurement.
A November 12, 2014 Microsoft Devices interview likewise described alerts for low Lumia battery and incoming notifications as intended functions. Neither historical announcement verifies modern compatibility or current resale availability.

What to check before buying a used DT-903
- Confirm the phone supports Qi if wireless charging is your goal; do not assume that a phone with Bluetooth or NFC will charge wirelessly.
- If you want the alert features, verify that you have the specified Lumia-era software and Bluetooth support, and that Device Hub can still be obtained and used on your device.
- Ask whether the USB cable and a suitable power source are included. The guide requires a compatible power source, but the historical materials do not establish what a used listing includes.
- Check the unit’s condition and seller terms. The historical launch price does not establish a fair present-day resale price.
