It records 16MP stills and 4K video, but its IP56 rating does not make it waterproof, and it is not designed for underwater photography.
What the Portal AFN7 is—and who it suits
Nocs describes the AFN7 as an adventure camera with physical controls, a digital viewfinder and no rear photo-review screen. A small OLED handles menu navigation; the viewfinder is for framing. That screen-free design may appeal to hikers, travelers and wildlife watchers who want a compact camera without a playback display, especially if they already use Nocs optics.

The key distinction is its optic pairing, not a conventional zoom lens. The AFN7 is less suited to anyone who wants instant image playback, interchangeable lenses, optical zoom, underwater use, a removable battery or close-up macro photography.
How its binocular and monocular pairing works
The included NocDoc alignment tool connects the camera to Nocs binoculars or a Nocs monocular. You frame the distant scene through the optics using the camera’s digital viewfinder, then take a photo or video. Nocs says, “Portal AFN7 works with all Nocs binoculars and monoculars, so your optics become a long lens for your camera.” That compatibility claim is specific to Nocs products; the manufacturer does not claim universal compatibility with other brands.

Is the Portal AFN7 waterproof?
No. Nocs lists IP56 protection against dust, rain and spray, but explicitly says not to submerge the camera. Treat it as weather-resistant within those stated limits, not as waterproof or suitable for underwater photography. TechRadar’s launch coverage also describes the camera as IP56-sealed for outdoor use (TechRadar).
Battery life, storage and transferring files
How many photos can it take per charge?
Nocs estimates up to about 2,250 photos or up to 180 minutes of continuous 4K recording on a charge. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent test results; actual endurance can vary with use. The 1100mAh rechargeable battery is sealed and non-removable.

What to check before choosing it
- Choose it for: low carry weight, screen-free shooting, or photographing a distant view through compatible Nocs binoculars or a monocular.
- Look elsewhere if you need: an underwater camera, rear-screen playback, optical zoom, interchangeable lenses, close-focus macro capability or a removable battery.
- Compare alternatives by: viewfinder and playback design, native lens and zoom type, optic compatibility, weather protection and submersion limits, video format, weight, storage, battery design, price and warranty. No matched side-by-side test establishes that the AFN7 is better than another camera.
At launch, TechRadar reported a price of $179.95 on October 2, 2026; price and availability can change. The Nocs Portal AFN7 product page is the primary source for current specifications and purchase terms. REI also has a product page, though its existence alone does not confirm current stock. Digital Camera World explains why a digital viewfinder is useful when framing through attached optics (Digital Camera World).
