Your role comes from attributes, weapon requirements, equipment, and the skills or runes attached to your loadout. Progression is likewise build-driven: you improve attributes, find and enchant weapons, craft and upgrade equipment, gather resources, cook meals, and develop your property in Sacrament. Online co-op is seamless for up to four players in a persistent shared Realm. Respec access and its price are not currently verified, so do not rely on a shrine, item, or fee quoted for another build.
Moon Studios has announced a different, more formal class and progression structure for version 1.0. A 2026 preview described 24 classes, more than 280 traits, six trait slots, and six factions, but those numbers describe the planned launch direction rather than mechanics confirmed in every Early Access build. The later official news index moved 1.0 from October 2026 to March 2027.

Does No Rest for the Wicked have classes now?
Not in the traditional character-creation sense. In the current Early Access build, a new character does not select a named class such as warrior, rogue, or mage. Instead, your fighting identity emerges as you combine attributes, weapon requirements, armor and other equipment, and the skills or runes supported by that equipment.
This distinction matters because two characters can begin with the same broad idea and end up playing very differently. A heavy weapon may demand different attributes and stamina management from a quick weapon, while its skills, reach, recovery time, and defensive options change the safest way to approach an enemy. Your “class” is therefore a practical description of the build you are using, not a permanent label chosen at the start.

What the announced 1.0 class system means
Moon Studios has previewed a reimagined class and progression system for 1.0. The preview lists 24 classes, 280+ traits, six trait slots, and six factions. It also describes more than 60 hours of new content and 15 or more hand-crafted regions. These are announced targets for the launch version and remain version-sensitive; they should not be presented as proof that every class feature is already playable in Early Access.
The studio has also said that “Two players using the exact same weapon will play nothing alike,” which captures the intended direction: equipment is a foundation, while traits and progression choices create the final play pattern.
What should a beginner choose instead of a class?
Choose a weapon direction that you can equip comfortably, then let the rest of the build develop from what you actually enjoy using. A good first choice is not the weapon with the highest listed damage; it is the one whose timing, reach, stamina demand, and defensive options you can read reliably.

A practical first-weapon checklist
- Check attribute requirements. Do not invest in a weapon you cannot equip or maintain without neglecting the rest of your build.
- Learn the normal attack. Notice its range, recovery animation, and how many swings you can safely make before an enemy acts.
- Test the dodge follow-up. Some weapons turn an evasive move into a useful counterattack; others reward a clean reset instead.
- Identify a defensive option. Blocking, parrying, spacing, and movement all change how much stamina you need to reserve.
- Try the equipped skill or rune. A skill that looks powerful on paper may be difficult to use if it consumes the stamina or resource you need for defense.
Practice in a low-risk area before committing resources. The beginner-friendly rhythm is to observe an enemy, defend or avoid its attack, take a short opening, and then reset your position. Preserve enough stamina for the enemy’s next action rather than spending every point on one additional hit.

How progression works in Early Access
Current progression is a network of connected systems rather than a single class level. Your character becomes stronger through attributes, weapons, equipment, skills and runes, loot, crafting, resource gathering, meals, property upgrades, and the choice of Realm Tier.
Attributes and weapon requirements
Attributes determine which weapons and pieces of equipment you can use and help establish the boundaries of a build. Before spending points, inspect the requirements of the weapon direction you want to keep using. A spread that meets several requirements may offer flexibility, while a focused investment can support a more demanding weapon and its associated play style.
Weapons, skills, and runes
Weapons are not interchangeable damage sticks. Their move sets determine reach, attack speed, recovery, stamina consumption, and the openings you can exploit. Skills or runes add another layer: they can provide burst damage, control, mobility, or a defensive answer, but only when the loadout supports them. Keep a weapon long enough to learn its complete rhythm before deciding that it is weak.
Loot, enchantment, and armor
The Steam description highlights a large loot pool, weapon enchantment, and rare armor crafting. Treat loot as a source of build decisions, not just a rising number. Compare a new item’s requirements and effects with the stamina and defensive habits you already use. A theoretically stronger item can be a poor upgrade if it forces a move set or resource cost you cannot execute consistently.

Gathering, meals, and Sacrament property
Resource gathering feeds crafting and other upgrades. Meals can replenish health and boost stats, making cooking part of preparation rather than an optional collectible activity. Your property in Sacrament is another progression layer; improvements there support the broader economy of crafting, storage, and preparation as you advance.
Realm Tiers
Realm Tiers provide multiple difficulty settings. Select the tier that matches your immediate goal: a lower challenge can help you learn an unfamiliar weapon and move through the story, while a higher tier offers a fuller combat test once your timing and equipment are ready. Changing the tier is a difficulty decision, not a replacement for learning enemy patterns or managing stamina.
A step-by-step starting plan
- Equip one coherent weapon direction. Confirm its attribute requirements and avoid splitting early resources among several unrelated weapons.
- Spend time in a safe area. Perform normal attacks, dodge follow-ups, defensive actions, and the weapon’s skill until their stamina costs are familiar.
- Fight by openings. Watch an enemy’s approach, defend or evade, make a short attack sequence, and move back before your stamina reaches empty.
- Replace equipment deliberately. Compare requirements, effects, and handling rather than equipping every item with a larger damage number.
- Gather and cook. Pick up useful resources, prepare meals for healing and stat boosts, and use crafting when an upgrade supports your chosen direction.
- Improve your Sacrament property. Property development adds lasting utility to the settlement and complements your crafting and storage needs.
- Raise the Realm Tier only when ready. If normal encounters still consume all of your stamina or healing, improve execution and equipment before increasing difficulty.
Can you respec your character?
A precise current answer is not verified. The available authoritative material does not establish the Early Access respec access point, requirements, or cost. That means you should not publish or follow a specific instruction claiming that a particular shrine, currency, or fixed fee is required unless it has been confirmed for your exact game version.
Version differences are especially important here. An instruction copied from an experimental branch, an older patch, or a future 1.0 preview may describe a system that is unavailable in the live build. Before committing attribute points, plan around the weapon requirements you can meet now and keep replacement gear that supports your intended direction. If Moon Studios adds or changes respec functionality, verify the location, prerequisites, and cost in current official patch notes or in-game text.

How many players can play co-op?
The Steam listing supports seamless online co-op for up to four players. The campaign, quests, bosses, and every inch of Isola Sacra can be shared, and co-op is integrated into the full game rather than separated into a small side mode.
Moon Studios describes the design as a persistent shared Realm: “Not just ‘joining someone’s session temporarily’, but truly living together in the same world.” The studio says players become “co-architects of a shared world,” with face-to-face trading and items that can be placed in shared chests. This is materially different from a temporary guest session that disappears when the host leaves.
How to invite friends
- Add the people you want to play with as friends on Steam.
- Open the game’s Realm or multiplayer interface in the live branch you are using.
- Invite those friends to your Realm through the Steam-connected invite flow.
- Confirm that everyone is on the same game branch and update before troubleshooting connection or save behavior.
Moon Studios’ official co-op beta instructions used separate saves from the live branch. Treat those beta steps as branch-specific: do not assume that an experimental Realm or character will behave like a current live save.

Co-op takes place in a persistent shared Realm, so players can work through campaign activities, quests, bosses, exploration, trading, and shared storage together. The world is designed to continue existing rather than reset as soon as one player disconnects.

That does not automatically mean every personal character value is identical for every participant. Keep track of which character and Realm you are using, and agree with friends on where important items belong before placing them in shared chests. If a beta or test branch uses separate saves, progress made there should not be treated as progress in the live branch.
Do you need a new character for co-op?
No separate “co-op character” requirement is established for the current design. Co-op is part of the main game and uses the shared Realm model, so the relevant question is whether your character and Realm are on the same current branch as your friends. Because branch-specific tests can use separate saves, check the branch and save context before assuming that an existing character will appear in an experimental session.
Solo or co-op: which is better for a first run?

Neither mode removes the need for stamina discipline. In a group, an extra player can create openings, but careless attacks can still leave the team without a defensive response. Decide in advance whether the group is exploring, progressing a quest, or testing a higher Realm Tier so that everyone arrives with suitable equipment and supplies.

Moon Studios has announced a broad 1.0 expansion: a reimagined class and progression system, more than 60 hours of new content, at least 15 hand-crafted regions, persistent multiplayer Realms, and planned crossplay and cross-save at launch. The official news index later moved the launch from October 2026 to March 2027. Because the date and feature set are future-facing, check the latest official announcement before treating them as final.
For an Early Access player, the practical lesson is to separate advice about the live build from expectations about 1.0. Build around the attributes, equipment, skills, crafting, meals, property, and Realm Tiers you can use now. Do not assume that a future class, trait, faction, cross-save, or crossplay feature is already available.
Common beginner mistakes and fixes
- Waiting for a class screen: Start by testing a weapon and its requirements; the current build is attribute- and equipment-driven.
- Spending every stamina point on offense: Stop one hit earlier so you can dodge, block, or reposition for the next enemy action.
- Changing weapons after every drop: Keep a weapon long enough to understand its full move set and skill costs.
- Following a respec guide without a version label: Treat access and cost as unverified until confirmed for your current branch and patch.
- Assuming beta saves are live saves: Experimental co-op instructions may use separate data; confirm the branch before joining friends.
- Raising Realm Tier too early: Increase difficulty after your core weapon rhythm, equipment, and resource routine are reliable.
Bottom line for a new player
Play the current Early Access version as a flexible, build-driven action RPG rather than a fixed-class game. Choose one weapon direction, meet its attributes, learn its attack-and-defense rhythm, and refine the build through equipment, skills or runes, crafting, meals, and Sacrament upgrades. Co-op supports up to four players in a persistent shared Realm with shared campaign activity, trading, and storage. Respec details are not verified, and the formal class system previewed for 1.0 belongs to the future-facing March 2027 launch plan, not a guarantee about every mechanic in the present build.
