Proton VPN, NordVPN and ExpressVPN each publish evidence supporting no-logs claims, but the evidence differs in scope, date and public access. None of these assessments proves that a provider will never log data or that every possible logging pathway was examined. The strongest choice depends on which provider’s policy and audit scope you can verify—not on an unsupported claim that one VPN is best for everyone.
What does “no logs” mean?
“No logs” usually refers to a provider’s policy on retaining information about VPN activity or connections. It does not necessarily mean the company holds no information at all: account details, billing records and data needed to maintain or troubleshoot a service may still exist. Proton VPN, for example, distinguishes account and maintenance information from activity data in its no-logs policy explanation. NordVPN also explains the term in its no-logs overview.

Read the actual policy categories rather than treating “no logs” as a promise of anonymity. A VPN changes how your internet traffic is routed, but this comparison does not establish that any provider can make a user anonymous or protect against every way activity might be identified.
How the three providers’ audit evidence compares
The table compares what the cited assessments examined, when they did so, and how readers can access the reports. The providers’ announcements and the public report are the basis for the descriptions below; an audit conclusion is not a guarantee of future conduct.

| NordVPN — Deloitte Lithuania | NordVPN announced its sixth no-logs assurance engagement on February 3, 2026. Deloitte’s engagement ran from November 10 to December 12, 2025, with the report issued December 12. NordVPN says it covered employee interviews and inspection of infrastructure, configurations and deployment processes, including standard VPN, Double VPN, obfuscated and Onion Over VPN server types. The company says the engagement used ISAE 3000 (Revised) and was a point-in-time assessment. NordVPN’s announcement | NordVPN says account holders can access the full report. The announcement does not publish excerpts. NordVPN’s announcement |
| Proton VPN — Securitum | Securitum’s 2025 assessment used a representative sample of production servers, not the entire fleet. The report says the work was not an unsupervised direct forensic investigation and relied on systems and evidence presented during the defined engagement. It describes earlier assessments in 2022, 2023 and 2024, and says the 2025 scope included newer platform components and configurations. Securitum’s public report | The assessment is available as a public PDF. Read Securitum’s report |
| ExpressVPN — KPMG LLP | ExpressVPN says KPMG examined its TrustedServer system and privacy-policy claims as of February 28, 2025, under ISAE (UK) 3000 Type 1. Its announcement says KPMG provided reasonable assurance that systems functioned as designed and identified no issues regarding technical safeguards against activity logging. ExpressVPN’s announcement | ExpressVPN says the full report is available subject to KPMG’s terms. What each provider says it does—and does not—retain
Proton VPN
Proton says it does not log visited websites, traffic or communications content, IP addresses, session lengths or location-based information. It says account information is retained and that maintenance and troubleshooting data is secured with full-disk encryption. Those distinctions matter: the no-logs claim is about specified activity and connection data, not an assertion that no service-related data exists. Proton VPN’s policy explanation
The same support page describes a 2019 legal case in which Proton says it could not provide logs because they did not exist. That is Proton’s account of that case; it should not be read as a general ruling that VPN providers are immune to legal orders. Proton VPN’s explanation

What an audit can tell you—and what it cannot
An independent assessment is useful evidence about a defined policy, system and period. It is not a permanent certification: software, infrastructure and operating practices can change after an engagement ends. The scope also matters. Securitum explicitly describes a representative server sample and says its work relied on evidence presented during the engagement; that is different from independently examining every server through unsupervised forensic access. Securitum’s report
Report access affects how much you can verify yourself. Proton’s report is public, while NordVPN and ExpressVPN say their full reports are available under account-holder or auditor terms, respectively. Where an announcement summarizes a report rather than publishing it, treat the conclusion as the provider’s description of the auditor’s work, not as a result you have independently inspected.

NordVPN calls its 2025 assessment the sixth engagement. That is a count of engagements, not a measurement of privacy quality. Securitum recommends annual independent audits in its report; that recommendation is not a promise that future assessments will occur. NordVPN’s announcement; Securitum’s report

Security features and device fit to check
A no-logs policy is only one part of choosing a VPN. The cited feature information supports a few practical checks, but it does not provide a controlled comparison of speed or overall security among these services.
Best Value
- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
- Protocols and app transparency: Proton VPN lists open-source apps and support for IKEv2, OpenVPN and WireGuard. Check that the protocols and app platforms you need are available on your own devices. Proton VPN feature information
- Connection protection: Proton lists a kill switch and full-disk encryption for servers. These are provider-stated features; they do not by themselves establish comparative performance or guarantee that a connection can never expose traffic. Proton VPN feature information
- Devices without VPN apps: ExpressVPN identifies Aircove routers as hardware that runs the VPN at network level. A router may suit a household device that cannot run an individual VPN app, but confirm current model availability and compatibility before buying. ExpressVPN’s audit overview
A practical checklist before subscribing
- Read the policy’s data categories. Identify which activity and connection information the provider says it does not retain, and what account, billing, maintenance or troubleshooting information it may keep.
- Match the audit to the claim. Check the auditor, assessment standard, systems examined, sample limitations and date. An audit of one product or a sample of servers does not automatically cover every app, server or future configuration.
- Open the report if possible. A public report lets you inspect scope and qualifications directly. If the full report is restricted, distinguish the provider’s summary from the auditor’s report itself.
- Check your devices and controls. Verify supported operating systems, protocol choices and any needed features, such as a kill switch or network-level router support.
- Compare commercial terms separately. The evidence here does not establish a head-to-head verdict on speed, jurisdiction, ownership, streaming reliability, total subscription cost, renewal pricing or refunds. Confirm the current regional plan, renewal price and terms before paying; prices can change, as reflected in TechRadar’s October 2026 VPN deal roundup.
Which no-log VPN should you choose?
Choose according to the evidence you can inspect and the devices you need to protect. Proton VPN has a public Securitum report with stated sampling and methodology limitations; NordVPN describes a recent Deloitte engagement whose full report it makes available to account holders; ExpressVPN reports a KPMG assessment of TrustedServer and privacy-policy claims, with report access subject to KPMG’s terms. The available evidence supports comparing these audit claims, not declaring a universal winner or ranking the services on overall value.
