Is NioPlay still open?
Casino.org’s October 2026 review and SweepsKings’ September 2026 closed-site listing both report that NioPlay shut down in April 2026. Casino.org says the site no longer loads and reports finding no official statement to players or the press. Nio Consolidated’s project page still describes NioPlay, but a promotional page is not evidence that accounts, games, or prize redemptions are currently functioning.

Because the closure reports are third-party accounts rather than an operator-confirmed announcement, the most accurate conclusion is that NioPlay appears closed—not that the operator has publicly explained the shutdown. The available information does not establish why it closed, whether all outstanding balances were paid, or what happened to unredeemed balances.
Was NioPlay legal?
There is no supported nationwide yes-or-no answer. NioPlay’s terms described the platform as not offering real-money gambling, while its official rules framed Sweeps Coins as entries in promotional sweepstakes with a free method of entry. Those are the operator’s stated terms; they are not a court ruling or an independent determination that the promotion complied with every jurisdiction’s laws.

The terms told users not to access the platform or a game where it was deemed illegal in the place they lived or were located. The official rules dated May 28, 2025 excluded Idaho, Nevada, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, and Washington, as well as Quebec. The terms dated January 30, 2025 listed a different set of excluded states: Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, Michigan, Montana, and Washington, and also excluded Quebec. Because the documents conflict, the later rules are the better description of the published eligibility list as of May 28, 2025; neither establishes current law or the rules in force at shutdown.
The sources reviewed do not identify a regulator or court decision establishing that NioPlay was legal nationwide. A person assessing a specific state or province would need current, jurisdiction-specific legal information; the platform’s sweepstakes wording alone cannot settle that question.

How NioPlay’s sweepstakes model worked
Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins had different purposes
NioPlay’s terms distinguished two virtual currencies. Gold Coins were for standard social play and, under the terms, could not be redeemed for prizes. Sweeps Coins were entries used for Promotional Play and were governed by separate official rules. The terms said Sweeps Coins were not available for direct purchase; they could be awarded for free, obtained through alternative entry methods, or included as a purchase bonus.

This distinction matters when interpreting claims that a social casino is “free” or “not gambling.” It describes how the operator said its currencies and promotion were structured. It does not independently determine the legal classification of the service or resolve the legality of a particular user’s activity.

The rules provided a free-entry method
The official rules dated May 28, 2025 stated, “NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT NECESSARY TO PARTICIPATE,” and said a purchase would not increase a participant’s chances of winning. They described a mail-in alternative method of entry. The rules also set a minimum prize-redemption threshold of 75 Sweeps Coins. That was a threshold in the published 2025 rules—not proof that redemption is available after the reported closure.

The terms identified Nio Consolidated, LLC as the owner and operator, as well as the sweepstakes sponsor. They included an individual arbitration provision and a waiver of class, group, and representative claims, subject to an opt-out provision.
