Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive due on October 22, 2026, and as of October 7, 2026 it has not been released. Nintendo confirms 12 motion-control sports, Joy-Con 2 controls, an explorable Wuhu Island, online and offline play, and a new offline mode called Island Crown. Early hands-on impressions exist, but they come from demos, not the finished game.
Is it on the original Switch?
No. Nintendo lists the game as exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 and identifies no compatibility with the original Switch. Motion play is built around Joy-Con 2 controllers, which act as rackets, bows and handlebars, and skateboarding uses Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. Nintendo advises wearing wrist straps and leaving enough room around every player.

The 12 sports Nintendo has confirmed
Nintendo’s U.S. product listing names all 12:
- Tennis
- Bowling
- Archery
- Boxing
- Volleyball
- Table tennis
- Basketball
- Golf
- Thumb wrestling
- Prop plane
- Skateboarding
- Power cruising
Nintendo UK also describes Prop Plane and Skateboarding as ways to get around Wuhu Island and find photo spots, so a few of these are more than standalone minigames. The sources reviewed do not give a complete, audited list of which activities carry over from Wii Sports Resort or Nintendo Switch Sports, so this article does not claim a feature-by-feature match with either.

Local play
Nintendo’s U.S. page lists TV and tabletop modes and one to four players on a single system. Nintendo UK says multiplayer needs one compatible controller per player, and Nintendo of America notes additional accessories may be required. In practice, that means planning for extra Joy-Con 2 controllers if you want a full four-person session.

Online play
Online features require a Nintendo Account and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo UK describes two modes: Pro League, where you face similarly ranked opponents starting at rank E, and Casual Online Play, where wins and losses are not recorded. Those are Nintendo’s own descriptions and say nothing yet about matchmaking quality. Nintendo says online group-size details will come later, so don’t assume a particular online player count.

Wuhu Island and Island Crown
According to Nintendo’s September 15, 2026 news post, you can explore Wuhu Island by chasing dolphins, hunting for hidden hibiscus flowers and collecting Spocco Photos that describe resort sights. Island Crown is a new offline mode in which you work your way up through sports challenges against Island Champions and Island Legends. Playing any sport in any mode earns Spocco Points, which can be exchanged for character customizations.
What early previews say
Both previews below are demo impressions, and Shacknews notes the final product may change. They are individual opinions, not test results.
Rank #3
- The ultimate game that brings together 30 different sports
- Challenge your family or friends and may the best player win
- Multiple game modes available: Quick match or Tournament / Team mode or Solo

Shacknews (October 6)
News Editor Donovan Erskine played at a private Nintendo-hosted event. He found the archery premise straightforward and the controls satisfying: you draw the arrow with Joy-Con 2, and HD Rumble adds a sense of tension. Power cruising, with the controllers held horizontally like handlebars, left his arms tired by the end. He also saw standard ten-pin and 100-pin bowling and described thumb wrestling, which uses an upright Joy-Con 2 and ZR, with movement and shaking involved in scoring and escaping. He did not get to play golf.
Game Informer
Executive Editor Brian Shea’s preview followed an hour with the game. He describes a four-player special mode in archery, boxing built around defense and openings, table tennis, and bowling that rewards spin and aim. His boxing experience was less smooth: the motion controls struggled when he punched in what he considered the correct way. He describes Island Crown as a run against 20 CPU characters across nine sports, aiming to rank up to an Island Legend boss. That is the preview’s account of the demo, not a final specification.
Rank #4
- 6 sports: Baseball, run's jump, goalkeeper, tennis, bowling & rafting.
- 20 characters to customize (change your name, outfit, accessories & hair)
- Varied game modes - Solo or multiplayer for up to 8 players.
- More than 15 environments and tons of unlockable items.
Does it “multiply the fun”?
That is a promotional framing, not an established finding. With the game unreleased, no independent sales, engagement or quality data exists. The reasonable takeaway is narrower: the lineup is large, the early reaction to archery was positive, and boxing responsiveness and arm fatigue in power cruising are worth watching in launch reviews.
