For The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on a TV, choose either the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model or the standard Nintendo Switch. The OLED is the better fit if you want the larger built-in screen and more storage; the standard model is the lower-priced TV-play option. Choose Nintendo Switch Lite only if handheld-only play suits you: it runs Breath of the Wild, but it cannot connect to a TV.
Which Nintendo Switch is best for Breath of the Wild?
All three models in this comparison play Breath of the Wild, but they suit different ways of playing. If you want to explore Hyrule on a television, narrow the choice to the OLED or standard Switch. If you want a dedicated handheld, Lite is compatible with the game.

The OLED model has the biggest screen in this lineup at 7 inches and twice the built-in storage of the standard model and Lite: 64GB versus 32GB. Those are tangible reasons to pay more if you often play in handheld or tabletop mode, or value additional internal storage.

Pick the standard Switch to spend less and keep TV play
The standard model has the same three play modes as OLED, but a 6.2-inch LCD and 32GB of built-in storage. It is the lower-priced choice among these two TV-capable models in Nintendo’s advertised U.S. prices.
Pick Lite only if handheld-only is what you want
Nintendo explicitly lists Breath of the Wild as compatible with Lite. The console is designed for handheld play and has no TV mode. Nintendo describes it as “a compact, lightweight Nintendo Switch system dedicated to handheld play.”

Is the OLED worth it for Breath of the Wild?
Consider OLED worth the extra cost if you will use its larger OLED screen in handheld or tabletop mode, or want 64GB of built-in storage. If you mainly play docked on a television, the documented differences here are screen, storage, and price—not a demonstrated improvement to the game itself.

Can you play Breath of the Wild on Switch Lite?
Yes. Nintendo says Lite can play Switch library games that support handheld mode, and its Lite product page names Breath of the Wild. Lite does not offer TV play, so it is not the right choice if you want to see the game on a television.
For other games, check the play-mode icons on the packaging or compatibility information in the Nintendo eShop before choosing Lite. Some games or features may require separately connected controllers when they rely on controls unavailable on Lite’s built-in controls.

What to check before you buy
- Decide whether TV play matters. If it does, compare OLED and standard Switch; Lite is handheld-only.
- Compare OLED and standard by the differences that matter to you. OLED has the larger screen and more built-in storage; the standard model has the lower advertised U.S. price in Nintendo’s listings.
- Check the exact listing. Verify seller, condition, model, bundle contents, return terms, and current price. Nintendo’s advertised prices are not a live retailer price guarantee.
- For Lite, verify game compatibility. Check packaging or Nintendo eShop play-mode information, especially if you plan to play games beyond Breath of the Wild.
- Treat accessories as optional. A microSDXC card can add storage, while a screen protector or carrying case may suit portable use. None is required to play Breath of the Wild; check that any accessory fits the exact console model.
