What is the difference?
A travel case is a compact enclosure for the console and, depending on its design, a small number of accessories. It can ride inside luggage or a backpack. A sling is a small bag worn separately; it may have room for the console as well as personal items, but its fit and padding depend on the individual model.

Nintendo lists both a Switch 2 Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case and a Switch 2 Game Traveler Deluxe Messenger Bag Case. These listings establish that both formats exist, not that one is superior.

Nintendo’s 2025 specifications put the console at approximately 166 mm × 272 mm × 13.9 mm with Joy-Con 2 attached. Maximum thickness is 30.7 mm from the control-stick tips to the ZL/ZR protrusions. Check the product’s usable internal dimensions against the console, allowing for sticks and button protrusions. A generic “Switch” compatibility label does not by itself establish that a bag or case fits Switch 2.
Choose by what you need to carry
Choose a travel case for a compact console kit
A fitted travel case is the better match if your usual load is the console plus a few small essentials, or if you plan to put it inside another bag. Confirm what the particular case holds; the category name alone does not tell you its capacity.

Choose a sling for console plus everyday items
A sling makes sense if you want a dedicated bag to wear separately and keep the console with other small personal belongings. Check that it has a compartment sized for Switch 2 and whether that compartment is padded; “messenger” or “sling” does not guarantee either feature.
Consider an all-in-one case for TV-mode gear
If you want to carry more than the handheld setup, Nintendo’s UK accessories page describes an all-in-one case for a Switch 2 console, dock, Joy-Con 2 controllers, cables and up to six game cards. Protection, licensing and practical checks
Do not assume a travel case protects better than a sling, or vice versa. A case encloses the console by design, while a sling is a bag that may or may not include a dedicated padded compartment. The official listings cited here do not provide comparative protection, comfort or value testing.

- Confirm explicit Switch 2 compatibility and usable internal dimensions.
- Check whether the console compartment is padded and how it closes; rely on product-specific construction details, not the bag format.
- List what you actually carry—games, charger, headphones or other daily items—and compare that with the stated capacity.
- For a licensed accessory, look for Nintendo’s Official Nintendo Licensed Product Seal. Nintendo says the seal indicates an accessory or peripheral has been evaluated and licensed for use with Nintendo systems. Its support guidance also says unlicensed accessories do not undergo Nintendo’s testing and evaluation process: Nintendo Support’s seal guidance.
