Yes. Star Wars Outlaws has a free gameplay demo on Nintendo Switch 2. Ubisoft limits the sample to up to three hours, but it gives players a substantial, curated section of Tatooine, its orbit and surrounding activities. The demo is designed to show how the open-world adventure plays on Nintendo’s newer hardware; its save data does not transfer to the purchased game.
What the Nintendo Switch 2 demo includes
The sample begins with the first quest, “The Heavy,” then opens a prepared mid-game slice of Tatooine and the planet’s orbit. Ubisoft has already granted selected upgrades and story beats, so the demo is not the same as starting a new campaign from the beginning.

Within the time limit, Kay Vess and Nix can pursue a mercenary, cross the dunes by speeder, deal with the Hutt Cartel and accept contracts in Mos Eisley. You can also play Kessel Sabacc, leave the city to explore the wider desert and launch into space for dogfights. Side quests become available after the opening quest, making the sample more than a short, linear tutorial.
How long is it?
Ubisoft describes the demo as lasting up to three hours. That is a maximum for the supplied slice, not a promise that every player will finish all available activities in that time. The actual duration depends on whether you follow the main objective, take contracts, explore beyond Mos Eisley or spend time in Sabacc and space combat.

Does demo progress carry into the full game?
No. Saves made in the Nintendo Switch 2 demo do not carry over to the full version. Treat the download as a time-limited preview: any gear, upgrades, discoveries and mission progress earned there must be repeated if you buy the game.

Is Star Wars Outlaws open world on Switch 2?
Yes. Ubisoft presents Star Wars Outlaws as the first open-world Star Wars game. The Switch 2 demo demonstrates that structure through free movement across Tatooine, speeder travel, optional contracts, exploration outside Mos Eisley and the ability to leave the planet for orbital dogfights. It is still a limited slice rather than the entire open-world campaign, so the demo should not be read as a complete map or full progression test.

Which editions can you buy?
Ubisoft lists three purchase tiers for the Switch 2 release. The standard edition contains the base game. Gold and Ultimate editions add extra content and cosmetic bonuses; the exact items can vary by storefront, region and any offer attached to the listing, so check the current Nintendo eShop or Ubisoft product description before paying.
| Edition | What Ubisoft identifies | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Base game | Players who want the core campaign without premium extras |
| Gold | Base game plus additional content | Players seeking expansion-style or bonus content bundled with the game |
| Ultimate | Base game plus additional content and cosmetics | Players who want the most complete bonus package offered for the release |
What to check before downloading or buying
- Confirm that the listing is specifically for Nintendo Switch 2; the demo is not described here as a Nintendo Switch (original model) release.
- Allow up to three hours for the sample and remember that its save cannot be continued in a purchase.
- Use the demo to assess the combination of speeder travel, third-person exploration, contracts, Sabacc and space combat rather than expecting the opening hours of the full campaign.
- For a purchase, compare the current standard, Gold and Ultimate descriptions in your region because included bonuses and pricing can change.
Who should try the demo?
It is most useful for players deciding whether the Switch 2 version’s open-world format and mix of ground and space activities appeal to them. It also lets owners sample a representative Tatooine scenario without paying first. If keeping the demo’s progress matters to you, skip the preview and begin with the full game instead, because the two save systems are separate.
