Which game won, and what does “Game of the Year” mean here?
The Japan Game Awards 2026 names Pokémon Pokopia as its Grand Award winner and lists Nintendo Switch 2 as the platform. “Game of the Year” is a convenient description, but the award’s official category is Grand Award; it should not be taken to mean Pokopia won every publication’s or organization’s Game of the Year title. How could U.S. buyers get Pokémon Pokopia in a bundle?
Nintendo of America announced a U.S. Choose Your Game promotion on May 12, 2026. Participating retailers offered a paid Nintendo Switch 2 console bundle that let buyers select a digital game, with Pokémon Pokopia among the three choices. The promotion made the selected game an included bundle item; it did not make the game free for existing console owners or available as a free standalone download. Does the October 2026 Japan bundle include Pokopia?
No. Nintendo’s separate Japanese-language Switch 2 Choose-Your-Game Bundle, announced October 6, 2026, does not list Pokémon Pokopia. Its download code is for one of these three selections:

Nintendo scheduled the Japan bundle to launch November 12, 2026, at a suggested retail price of ¥63,980. The included game code is valid through March 31, 2027. Yes. The U.S. promotion described by Nintendo tied the digital game choice to purchase of a qualifying console bundle at participating retailers. If you already own a Switch 2, the announcement does not establish that you can claim Pokopia at no cost separately. The Japan bundle is also a console purchase and, in any case, does not offer Pokopia.
