The date and any new amounts remain unconfirmed until Nintendo publishes an official notice or updates its repair-price tables.
What has been reported about the repair increase
A Reddit report dated October 16, 2026 says Nintendo Japan will change repair prices for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch products received by the company from November 16, 2026, citing higher repair-parts costs. November 16 falls on a Monday.

This is a secondary report, not a Nintendo announcement. Nintendo has not yet published the new item-by-item amounts in the official results available for this article. Treat both the start date and every claimed new fee as provisional until Nintendo confirms them.
The wording “received by the company” matters. If Nintendo adopts that wording in its eventual notice, the applicable price could depend on when the console arrives at Nintendo rather than when a customer creates a shipping request. Owners planning service around the change should check the final Japanese repair notice for that rule.

Nintendo’s current official reference prices
Nintendo describes the amounts in its Japan repair tables as reference prices, including tax. They are not guaranteed flat-rate quotes. The currently documented Switch examples are:
| Model | Part or service category | Current reference amount (tax included) |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch OLED (HEG-001) | CPU board | ¥16,500 |
| Nintendo Switch OLED (HEG-001) | OLED display | ¥12,100 |
| Nintendo Switch OLED (HEG-001) | Other parts, including charging-port or battery-related work | ¥6,050 |
| Nintendo Switch (HAC-001) | CPU board | ¥14,300 |
| Nintendo Switch (HAC-001) | LCD unit | ¥9,900 |
| Nintendo Switch (HAC-001) | Other parts | ¥6,050 |
These are the published baseline figures, not the alleged November prices. Nintendo’s Switch 2 support hub confirms that Switch 2 has its own repair reference-price information and parts support, but the available official results do not expose a complete Switch 2 component-by-component table. There is therefore no responsible way to state a current or future Switch 2 board, screen, charging-port or Joy-Con fee until Nintendo lists it.

Why the final repair bill can be higher
Nintendo says it may use a different part if the listed component does not resolve the fault and may charge a different amount. A console with several types of damage can require multiple replacements.
- Liquid or water damage: corrosion can affect more than the initially reported component.
- Drops or impact: a damaged screen, frame and internal board may need separate work.
- Modifications: altered hardware or software can change what Nintendo can service and which parts are required.
- Protective accessories: Nintendo’s shipping instructions tell customers to remove customer-installed protective sheets and covers before sending a console for service.
Because of these conditions, a table amount should be used to compare possibilities, not treated as a guaranteed maximum. Ask Nintendo for the actual estimate after inspection, particularly when the console has liquid, impact or modification history.

Japan hardware prices already rose in May 2026
Nintendo separately announced on May 8, 2026 that Japanese hardware MSRPs would change on May 25. That announcement cited changes in market conditions and the global business outlook. It was a retail-price revision, not proof that repair fees had already increased.
| Japanese model | Previous MSRP | MSRP from May 25, 2026 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Switch 2 (Japanese-language model) | ¥49,980 | ¥59,980 | +¥10,000 |
| Switch OLED | ¥37,980 | ¥47,980 | +¥10,000 |
| Standard Switch | ¥32,978 | ¥43,980 | +¥11,002 |
| Switch Lite | ¥21,978 | ¥29,980 | +¥8,002 |
The higher replacement prices raise the cost floor for an owner deciding whether to repair an older console. They do not, by themselves, establish the amount of any November repair increase.
How to decide between repair and replacement
- Identify the model and fault. Record whether the unit is a Switch 2, OLED (HEG-001), standard Switch (HAC-001) or Switch Lite, and describe symptoms such as a blank display, charging failure or physical damage.
- Check Nintendo’s current repair table and service conditions. Use the listed amount only as a reference. Keep documentation of whether the console is under warranty or otherwise eligible for service, because that status belongs in the final comparison.
- Wait for the confirmed November table if timing is flexible. The reported November 16 date and new fees are not official yet. If the console must be shipped near that date, verify which receipt date Nintendo applies.
- Compare the inspected estimate with the correct replacement MSRP. For example, an OLED CPU-board reference amount of ¥16,500 is far below the ¥47,980 OLED retail MSRP, while a complicated, multi-part repair could narrow that gap. A Switch 2 decision should use Nintendo’s confirmed Switch 2 estimate and the ¥59,980 Japanese-language MSRP, not a guessed repair fee.
- Include practical costs. Consider shipping, accessories that must be removed, downtime and the risk that inspection identifies additional damage. Do not send a modified or liquid-damaged console assuming the single-part table amount will apply.
What Switch 2 and Switch owners should do now
- Do not budget from an unverified November price list or treat the Reddit report as a Nintendo announcement.
- Save the model number, purchase or warranty records and a clear description of the failure before requesting service.
- Remove customer-installed screen films, shells and covers as Nintendo’s shipping instructions require, and package the console according to Nintendo’s directions.
- After Nintendo posts the new table, compare model, component, warranty status and repair-versus-replace cost. Liquid damage, drops and modifications may move the repair outside the reference amount.
The key question is not simply whether Nintendo raises a line-item fee. It is whether the confirmed inspected estimate remains materially below the price of a replacement console at Japan’s post-May 2026 MSRPs.
