Nintendo’s September 2026 Zelda anniversary presentation announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, not a confirmed new sequel in the “Wilds era.” Nintendo lists the game for November 5 and says the remake updates the visuals, cutscenes, dialogue, music, camera, and movement controls.
What Nintendo actually announced
Nintendo’s official 40th Anniversary Direct identifies the game as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Its announcement describes the remake as bringing back Link’s 1998 adventure “for a whole new era,” but does not announce a new game following Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The phrase “Wilds era” appears in fan discussion, not as Nintendo’s official name for this announcement.

Nintendo’s 40th Anniversary Direct page and announcement details are the relevant official references. The distinction matters: this is a remake of an existing game, not evidence of a newly announced Wilds-era sequel.
What changes in the remake
Nintendo says the remake includes overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, and reworked camera and movement controls. The announcement describes these changes but does not provide performance specifications, a detailed controls breakdown, or hands-on comparisons with the original.

Platform and release date
Nintendo lists Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 and says it will be available November 5. The announcement does not establish a price or specify regional retailer availability. Nintendo’s June 2026 Direct roundup is a separate earlier presentation; it is not the source of this anniversary remake announcement.
Physical edition packaging
Nintendo says the first print run of the physical version will feature textured foil cover art, available while supplies last. That describes the packaging offer, not a guaranteed stock level or retailer listing. Check the local product listing for edition details and current availability.

Why the announcement is a significant Zelda milestone
Nintendo says the Zelda series began in Japan in 1986. The company’s September 8, 2026 corporate release also reports more than 6.1 billion video games and over 870 million hardware units sold globally across Nintendo’s business; those are company-wide cumulative totals, not Zelda sales figures. Nintendo’s corporate release provides that context.
