Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo launched in the United States on October 9, 2024, with a suggested price of $99.99. Its second anniversary falls on October 9, 2026. Two years on, Alarmo remains a standalone motion-sensing alarm clock rather than a Nintendo Switch accessory, but Nintendo has expanded its software, themes and alarm controls through four firmware releases and several free scene additions.
What Nintendo Alarmo does
Alarmo is an interactive alarm clock that uses a motion sensor to respond to movement in bed. Nintendo says motion can snooze the alarm, while getting out of bed can stop it. The clock operates independently: it does not connect to, control or exchange data with a Nintendo Switch or another console.

Nintendo lists compatibility with standard bed sizes from Twin through King. Its sensor is designed to interpret the sleeper’s movement, but household conditions matter. A pet or an electric fan within the sensing area can be mistaken for the user’s movement and cause the alarm to continue. Nintendo says pressing the dial stops the alarm in that situation.
When did Nintendo Alarmo come out?
Nintendo announced and launched Sound Clock: Alarmo on October 9, 2024. The launch announcement listed a suggested US price of $99.99. That is a historical launch figure, not a guarantee of the current price or availability in every region in 2026.

Every major Alarmo update since launch
Nintendo’s official update history shows four numbered firmware releases. The changes have focused on practical alarm behavior, setup flexibility and browsing the scene library rather than adding console connectivity.
| Version | Release date | Changes |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0.0 | October 9, 2024 | Added Moderate Mode, Movement Record, bed-distance options for Queen and King beds, and a movement-position estimate in Check Sensor Zone. |
| 3.0.0 | March 23, 2025 | Added separate weekday alarm settings, one-minute sleepy-sound timing, scene previews, improved sleepy-sound detection and a brighter darkness setting. |
| 3.1.0 | October 19, 2025 | Improved visual clarity for the Animal Crossing: New Horizons theme. |
| 4.0.0 | May 18, 2026 | Changed scene selection so users choose a game title first, added Shuffle Favorites and improved stability. |
The version numbers do not indicate a new hardware generation. The documented improvements are firmware features delivered to the existing clock.

Power, backup battery and setup requirements
USB power is required
Alarmo needs USB power for normal operation. Nintendo’s setup support says an AC adapter is not included and specifies a USB Type-A-to-C adapter capable of at least 5V, 1.5A and 7.5W. Check those minimums before using a spare charger; a cable alone does not provide power without a suitable adapter.
What the coin cell does
The manual specifies a non-replaceable CR2032 coin-cell backup battery. It is a backup component, not a substitute for the required USB power connection. Because the cell is non-replaceable, owners should not treat it as a routine user-serviceable battery.
Internet features
Wi-Fi is used for internet time synchronization, Nintendo Account linking, free scene downloads and firmware updates. Alarmo remains usable as a standalone clock in the sense that it does not require a Switch or phone to function as a companion device, but network access is needed for those online services.

Privacy and household compatibility
Nintendo’s FAQ says no movement-related data is shared from Alarmo. That statement addresses movement data; the clock still uses Wi-Fi for the specific synchronization, account, download and update functions listed above.
Sensor placement is the main household variable. Keep the sensing area clear of pets and avoid placing an active fan where its movement can be interpreted as activity. If another person shares the bed, or if the sleeper’s position differs substantially from the configured bed-distance setting, alarm behavior may be less predictable. Nintendo provides bed-distance options for Queen and King beds and a movement-position estimate in Check Sensor Zone to help with setup.
Is Alarmo worth it two years later?
Alarmo makes the strongest case for people who want a dedicated, game-themed bedside device with motion-based snoozing and wake detection. The clock has received meaningful free updates: weekday-specific alarms, improved sleepy-sound behavior, scene previews, additional bed settings, a brighter darkness option and a larger scene library.
It is a weaker fit if you expect Switch integration, phone notifications, replaceable batteries or an included wall adapter. It also requires attention to sensor placement in homes with pets, fans or two sleepers. The $99.99 suggested US launch price provides a reference point, but current regional pricing and stock can differ and are not established by that launch figure.
After two years, the central product remains unchanged: Alarmo is a standalone motion-sensing alarm clock. The updates have made that core experience more configurable and expanded its Nintendo-themed content, without turning it into a console peripheral or a general-purpose smart-home hub.
