Choose Ninja for drink variety and guided convenience
The ES701 is the more versatile option if your household alternates between espresso drinks, drip coffee and cold brew, or if hot water for tea and Americanos is useful. Ninja also describes Barista Assist grind recommendations and automatic brew adjustments, plus hands-free frothing. Those features make the workflow more guided than a machine that leaves more of the preparation to the user.

Choose Breville for a hands-on espresso routine
The BES870XL is the better fit if your priority is an espresso-focused setup with an integrated grinder and manual technique. Breville describes dose control, low-pressure pre-infusion followed by nine-bar extraction, PID temperature control and a manual steam wand designed for milk texturing. The wand gives you a hands-on role in preparing milk rather than relying on the Ninja’s described automatic frothing approach.
That control may appeal if you want to learn and practice the process. It should not be mistaken for proof that the Breville produces better espresso: the available product descriptions do not provide matched tasting results or a controlled comparison.
