The Nike Vomero 18 is a maximum-cushion road shoe aimed at everyday running, especially easy, recovery, and long road miles. Reviewers generally praise its substantial cushioning and comfort, but its weight and limited support for faster running or loose-surface grip make it a better fit for some training routines than others.
What the Vomero 18 is built for
Nike positions the Vomero 18 as its maximum-cushion road-running shoe for everyday runs. The company announced the model on February 27, 2025, describing a full-length ZoomX foam layer above ReactX foam in the heel and forefoot. Nike says the shoe has more rocker geometry and six millimeters more stack than its predecessor. These are manufacturer specifications and positioning, not independent evidence that the shoe will feel comfortable for every runner. Nike’s launch announcement says development also drew on women runners’ needs and insights.

Independent reviewers agree more on the shoe’s generous cushioning than on the exact character of its ride. Nathan Allen at iRunFar called it one of the plushest shoes currently available and found the upper comfortable. Doctors of Running also described it as well-cushioned, but characterized the ride as firmer and more responsive than the tall stack might suggest. Those are different subjective impressions, not a single objective rating. iRunFar’s review and Doctors of Running’s review provide their respective assessments.
#1 Best Overall
- Engineered mesh upper for soft breathability
Weight is the recurring compromise. Doctors of Running describes the shoe as heavy, and iRunFar’s size-specific measurement is 320 g for a US men’s size 10. For comparison, Nike’s UK listing gives approximately 325 g for a men’s UK size 9. Because these measurements use different size conventions and sources, they should not be treated as a controlled comparison or a universal weight.
Where it fits into a training week
Everyday, easy, recovery, and long road runs
Nike’s stated everyday-run purpose and the independent reviews’ emphasis on cushioning support considering the Vomero 18 for road miles where a plush, protective-feeling ride is the priority. Doctors of Running specifically favors slower easy, recovery, and long runs over faster-day use. Comfort is a subjective experience; the available evidence does not establish injury prevention or a medical benefit.

Speed sessions and workouts
The shoe’s heavy build and reviewers’ use-case assessments make it a less compelling choice if your priority is a light, fast-feeling shoe for intervals or tempo runs. That does not mean it cannot be run faster in; it means the cited reviews do not identify speed work as its strongest role.

iRunFar’s Allen observed less waffle-inspired outsole rubber than on the Vomero 17 and said grip may be reduced on dirt, gravel, and crushed rock. Doctors of Running, by contrast, noted good road and mild-trail traction. These reviewer observations do not establish trail-shoe performance across conditions: the Vomero 18 is presented as a road shoe, and loose or uneven terrain is not its clearest strength.

Fit, upper, and replaceable insole
Allen at iRunFar described the upper as comfortable and its width as fairly middle-of-the-road. Nike UK lists regular and wide versions, which is useful if you already know you need more room. The reviews cited here do not support a universal recommendation to size up or down; try your usual running-shoe size where possible and check the retailer’s return terms.
RunRepeat reports that the insole is removable and that most third-party replacement insoles fit without issue in its assessment. Its review also reports 4/5 torsional rigidity, 3/5 toe-box durability, and 5/5 heel-padding durability in its own tests. These are RunRepeat’s review measurements and ratings, not Nike specifications or industry standards. See RunRepeat’s Vomero 18 review.
Rank #4
- The upper is made of engineered mesh for soft breathability.
- Our dual-density midsole has ZoomX foam stacked on top of ReactX foam, 13% more responsive than previous React technology, for a comfortable ride.
- We placed pods around the outsole to help enhance agility and smoother heel-to-toe transitions.
- A plush tongue and lining give you a comfortably snug feel.
- Newly stacked foam midsole with premium ZoomX on top of ReactX foam amplifies cushioned comfort.
Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want a highly cushioned road shoe for everyday, easy, recovery, or long runs and do not mind a substantial-feeling build.
- Look elsewhere or compare carefully if low weight, a fast workout feel, or dependable grip on loose off-road surfaces is central to your needs.
- Check fit availability if you need a wide option; Nike UK lists regular and wide, but stock and options vary across regions.
Nike’s own lineup distinguishes Vomero as maximum cushioning, Pegasus as responsive cushioning, and Structure as supportive cushioning. That is the manufacturer’s category description, not a controlled head-to-head test, so choose by the ride and fit you need rather than treating the labels as independent performance rankings. Nike’s UK product page carried an endorsement from Grant Fisher, but an athlete endorsement is promotional material rather than independent evidence.
