Adeniyi Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to eight counts when he was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja on 30 September 2026 in a case over the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The allegations include conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. The case is pending; the charges have not been proved.
What happened at the arraignment?
The Nigeria Police Force filed the case on 27 November 2025 against Adeyemi and two other defendants identified in reports as Femi and Anu. They were reported at large when Adeyemi appeared in court. At the 30 September 2026 arraignment, he denied all eight counts. Justice Mohammed Umar ordered that he be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre while his bail application was pending. Reports said the next hearing was scheduled for 12 October 2026; court dates can change.

What do prosecutors allege?
Prosecutors allege that the defendants used forged documents to make PFIPC appear officially established or recognized. Examples described in court reporting include a purported presidential appointment letter, State House letterheads, an approval for the council’s take-off, requests concerning staff accounts and office accommodation, and letters seeking collaboration with a federal ministry. One count alleges Adeyemi falsely represented himself as the council’s Director-General. These are allegations, and Adeyemi has pleaded not guilty.
What investigators reportedly found
Premium Times reported that police investigators said they traced 34 bank accounts linked to Adeyemi, including nine in the names of purported government agencies. That figure is an investigative claim reported by the outlet, not a finding by the court; the available reporting does not establish that funds were disbursed.

What is the government’s position on PFIPC?
The Presidency’s reported position is that PFIPC was not established under the Tinubu administration and that no appointment was made. Channels Television reproduced a disclaimer signed by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, stating: “such an office does not exist under this administration and no appointment has been made in that regard.”
Why a reported budget entry does not settle the question
Channels Television also reported that the Budget Office’s published 2026 Appropriation Bill details included a combined “Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council” entry with a total allocation of ₦1.303 billion. That description is Channels Television’s account of the budget details. An entry in budget documents, by itself, does not prove that PFIPC was lawfully created or that money was released to it.

Adeyemi disputes the official account
Channels Television reported that Adeyemi challenged the official account, made allegations about Gbajabiamila and called for an independent investigation. The Presidency rejected his claims, according to the same reporting. These disputed statements have not been adjudicated in the pending criminal case.
How the case reached arraignment
Earlier court appearances did not result in arraignment. NTA reported that Adeyemi missed a July 2026 appearance and that a warrant was issued; later reports said he was arrested shortly afterward. Premium Times described earlier delays involving requests by counsel, an absence and the judge’s official engagements. These reports provide procedural context, not evidence of guilt.

At the September appearance, the court ordered remand pending consideration of Adeyemi’s bail application; it did not decide whether he was guilty. Reports listed a bail hearing and trial for 12 October 2026. The matter remains unresolved, and any later hearing date or outcome should be checked against current court reporting.
