The supplied headline’s combination of a 170-point Nifty gap, an IT rally and a 6.5% KOSPI fall is not verified by the reports available here. The closest dated reports describe separate sessions: on October 13, 2026, the KOSPI fell 6% in early trading amid technology selling and inflation concerns; on July 2, India’s Nifty IT index rose as much as 4.6% while the KOSPI fell nearly 8%.

What the October 13 market report actually says

A Reuters-syndicated update published by Business Standard at 8:23 a.m. IST on October 13, 2026, reported sharp early-session losses across Asian markets. The KOSPI was down 6%, the MSCI Asia-Pacific index excluding Japan was down 2%, and Japan’s Nikkei had fallen 2.6% after reopening from a holiday. These were intraday figures, not closing results. Business Standard’s October 13 report attributed the mood to technology-share weakness, elevated oil and geopolitical concerns.

The report cited Brent crude futures at $105.9 a barrel, near a two-week high, as a market quote at the time of publication—not as a lasting or current price. It also described concern about chip selling on Wall Street, competition in AI stocks, inflation and yields, positioning ahead of inflation data, and upcoming U.S. bank earnings. Those are reported factors, not proof that any one factor alone caused the market moves.

How inflation and oil fit into the selloff

Higher energy prices can intensify inflation worries because oil feeds into transport and production costs. If investors expect inflation to stay elevated, they may also expect interest rates to remain higher for longer, which can weigh on equity valuations. In the October 13 report, Saxo chief investment strategist Charu Chanana put the connection this way: “Markets are rediscovering that geopolitics matters most when it feeds back into inflation.” The quotation and market context were reported by Business Standard.

This is a mechanism investors were weighing, not a guarantee that oil prices or inflation will move in one direction. Geopolitical risk can affect markets through energy supply expectations, while technology valuations and positioning can add to or offset that pressure.

Why the Indian IT rally and KOSPI crash figures should not be combined

A separate India Today report dated July 2, 2026, described the Nifty IT index rising as much as 4.6% to 26,946.35 after falling 6.5% across the previous four sessions. It said the KOSPI fell nearly 8% in that episode. That is not evidence of a 170-point gap in the Nifty 50 or a 6.5% KOSPI drop on October 13. The indices, dates and reported moves differ. India Today’s July 2 report covers that separate session.

Rank #2
Date and source Index and reported move What the report says about context
October 13, 2026; Business Standard/Reuters KOSPI down 6% in early trading; MSCI Asia-Pacific excluding Japan down 2%; Nikkei down 2.6% after a holiday Technology weakness, oil and geopolitical risk, inflation and yield concerns, and positioning ahead of data and earnings
July 2, 2026; India Today Nifty IT up as much as 4.6% to 26,946.35; KOSPI down nearly 8% Nifty IT rebound followed a 6.5% decline over the prior four sessions
June 8, 2026; Yonhap News Agency KOSPI closed down 676.18 points, or 8.29%, at 7,484.41 Reported concerns included AI profitability, semiconductor losses and a possible hawkish Federal Reserve shift

The June figures are another distinct episode, not confirmation of either headline combination. Yonhap’s June 8 report records the closing level and the explanations reported at the time.

What can and cannot be concluded from the headline

  • The exact pairing of a 170-point Nifty gap with a 6.5% KOSPI fall has not been established by these reports.
  • The October 13 figures are early-trading observations; they should not be described as closing changes.
  • The July 2 report concerns the Nifty IT index, not a verified 170-point move in the Nifty 50.
  • Market explanations in the reports are attributed assessments. They do not isolate a single cause or establish what happened after publication.
