Indian IT shares rallied in the morning session on August 28, 2026: the Nifty IT index was up 3.2% at 10:26 a.m., while LTM gained 5%. Business Standard linked the buying to a strong US market close after NVIDIA issued an upbeat revenue forecast, though that is a reported explanation—not proof of a single cause. These are intraday moves from that date, not current prices.
How much did the Nifty IT index and the shares rise?
Business Standard reported that the Nifty IT index was the strongest sectoral index at 10:26 a.m. on August 28, 2026, when it was up 3.2%. The same-session share moves reported for the named companies were:

| Index or company | Reported intraday move on August 28, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Nifty IT | Up 3.2% at 10:26 a.m. |
| LTM | Up 5% |
| Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) | Up 4% |
| HCL Technologies | Up 4% |
| Tech Mahindra | Up 3% |
The headline’s “up to 5%” refers to LTM, the largest gain among the named shares in the report; it does not mean every stock listed rose by that amount. The figures describe trading during one session and should not be read as closing prices or as current market quotes.
What was reported as the reason for the rally?
Business Standard attributed the buying interest to a firm US-market close after NVIDIA issued a strong revenue forecast. In the preceding Thursday session, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.20%, the S&P 500 gained 0.72% and the Nasdaq advanced 1.57%, according to the publication. The report quoted Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, founder and CEO of HST Wealth, on the US-market reaction.

That account offers a plausible market catalyst: optimism in US technology shares can influence sentiment toward Indian IT stocks. But the reported sequence does not establish that NVIDIA’s forecast alone caused the Indian rally. A single-session share move can reflect broader positioning and expectations as well as the catalyst highlighted in a news report.
What NVIDIA reported—and what it does not show about Indian IT
NVIDIA’s August 26, 2026, release for its second quarter of fiscal 2027 reported revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year, and data-center revenue of $89.0 billion, up 117% year over year. The quarter ended July 26, 2026. Those are the company’s reported results; they provide context for the upbeat forecast referenced in the market coverage, but actual quarterly results and a forecast are not the same thing.

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang described the company’s view of demand this way: “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue.” That is NVIDIA’s characterization of AI demand, not independent evidence that Indian IT providers will capture more revenue or earn higher margins. Strong demand for computing infrastructure does not by itself establish how much clients will spend on IT services or how that spending will affect any particular company.
Why the one-day move does not settle the sector outlook
The same Business Standard report described Indian IT companies’ Q1 earnings as mixed. It relayed analyst concerns about a higher base, slower growth, AI-led pricing deflation, slower discretionary spending, high Federal Reserve rates, crowded IT budgets and competition. It also cited more positive sentiment around deal pipelines and better demand commentary for the second half of fiscal 2027. These are competing considerations, not a guarantee that demand or share prices will move in one direction.

The report said the Nifty IT index had rebounded 22% from its July 2026 lows while remaining negative year to date. That is a dated comparison reported on August 28, 2026—not a current return or evidence on its own that a sustained recovery had begun. The size of a bounce from a low and the index’s year-to-date performance describe different comparison periods.
To assess whether a rally has a stronger business foundation, investors would need to look beyond a headline percentage move. Relevant company-level measures include earnings and guidance, whether announced deals convert into revenue, resilience of margins, valuation, and exposure to discretionary spending and AI-related pricing pressure. The cited market report included analyst commentary on some of these factors, but it was not a full valuation comparison or a current recommendation for the named stocks.

Will the IT rally continue?
The August 28 session alone cannot answer that. The report’s attributed catalyst explains the day’s optimism, while its account of mixed earnings and sector risks shows why one strong session should not be treated as a forecast. NVIDIA’s results and outlook are relevant market context, but they do not establish future Indian IT revenue, earnings or share-price performance. A one-day rise is not, by itself, a buy signal.
