How the Nifty and Sensex closed
| Benchmark | October 5 close | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,555.75 | +133.80 points (+0.60%) |
| Sensex | 72,382.47 | +472.77 points (+0.66%) |
The closing figures were reported by The Economic Times and Upstox. The reports described the session as a rebound after a prolonged losing run. They cited softer-than-expected US jobs data and moderating crude oil; Upstox also pointed to easing crude and positive Asian-market cues. Those are the reports’ explanations for the market context, not proof that any single factor caused the rise.

The Economic Times also highlighted ITC, BSE, HCL Tech and Asian Paints in its market-wrap headline, but that does not make the NIFTY 50 table a Sensex list.
#1 Best Overall
Gains were broad in the benchmarks, but not across the market
The Economic Times reported that Nifty Midcap 100 rose 0.67% and Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 0.47%. Sector performance was mixed: Nifty FMCG and Nifty Consumer Durables each gained around 2%, while Nifty Healthcare and Nifty Pharma each fell nearly 1%.
Despite the benchmark advances, NSE breadth was negative: 1,846 stocks advanced, 1,745 declined and 115 were unchanged, according to The Economic Times’ October 5 report. Benchmark gains therefore did not mean that more listed stocks rose than fell.

What the technical commentary said
Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, founder and CEO of HST Wealth, told The Economic Times that the Nifty tested a broken weekly 200-day simple moving average zone at 22,580–22,600 but closed below it. He described the implications as conditional: “A sustained move above this band could extend the recovery toward 22,800, while rejection would keep 22,400 as the immediate support.”
