That closure does not mean every affected vehicle has been repaired: a separate recall, 26V363, covers a larger group of 2021–2025 vehicles. Owners should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) and follow any recall instructions that apply.
What happened—and what the closure means
NHTSA opened preliminary evaluation PE24-024 on September 6, 2024, to examine reports of fires in the engine compartments of certain 2021–2023 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles. News coverage reported that the agency closed the evaluation in late September 2026 and will continue monitoring. The official recall filing available here documents the later recall, but not NHTSA’s closing resume or its full rationale. The reported closure therefore should not be read as confirmation that the hazard is gone or that recalled vehicles have all been fixed.

What the Jeep fire recall says
FCA’s recall filing identifies an electrical connection associated with the electric hydraulic power steering pump (EHPSP). The connection may develop high electrical resistance, overheat nearby combustible material, and potentially lead to a fire. FCA’s chronology says tolerance and terminal-position issues could contribute to high resistance and that a loose connection could melt.

Some owners may experience loss of power steering assist or see a “Service Power Steering” diagnostic trouble code, but the filing does not say every affected vehicle will display a warning. The recall describes fires as a potential outcome; it does not establish that every vehicle in the recall population has the defect.
Which vehicles are included in recall 26V363?
FCA lists 1,076,999 potentially involved Wranglers and Gladiators from model years 2021–2025. The stated production ranges begin June 24, 2020, for Wrangler and August 18, 2020, for Gladiator; both end December 2, 2024. Model year and production date alone are not a substitute for checking the VIN, which determines whether a particular vehicle has an unrepaired recall.

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow to check your Jeep by VIN
- Find the vehicle’s 17-character VIN. It is commonly visible through the windshield on the driver’s side or on the vehicle registration and insurance documents.
- Open NHTSA’s recall lookup and enter the VIN to check for unrepaired recalls.
- If the lookup lists recall 26V363, contact a Jeep dealership to arrange the recall inspection and remedy. Ask the dealer about the vehicle-specific instructions and service availability.
- If the lookup shows no unrepaired recall but you believe the vehicle may be affected, check again later or contact a dealer. NHTSA says VIN records for newly announced recalls may be added continuously.
What owners should do while waiting for service
FCA advises owners to park affected vehicles away from structures or other vehicles until the remedy is obtained. Follow any interim safety instructions that apply to your vehicle and confirm the next steps with a dealership. The recall remedy is an inspection and repair or replacement of affected parts as necessary; aftermarket equipment or a generic diagnostic tool is not a substitute for that recall work.
