Some adverts ask you to paste CV content into a form; others require an application form and a separate supporting statement. There is no single workaround or universal page or word limit.
First, check what this vacancy actually asks you to submit
Read the full advert, job description, person specification and application instructions before drafting. Identify each required field and how the employer will assess it. A no-attachment instruction does not, by itself, tell you whether to paste CV details, write supporting information, submit a supporting statement, or complete more than one of those.

These are examples of different employers’ instructions, not an exhaustive list of NHS Jobs formats. One of the adverts was posted on 28 August 2025 and was closed when accessed; neither example should be treated as a current opening. Follow the instructions on the vacancy you are applying for.

NHS Jobs candidate guidance says shortlisting considers how closely an application matches the person specification and recommends giving clear examples in supporting information. Turn the essential criteria into a checklist, then make sure the required form fields show how you meet each one. A list of duties or a general biography may not make that connection clear.

For each relevant criterion, use a short evidence pattern: name the skill or requirement, explain what you personally did and in what context, then give the result or other evidence. This is a practical way to make examples clear, not a required NHS Jobs template. Draw on relevant work, skills, knowledge, experience, volunteering or other material that helps demonstrate your suitability.
Use the right approach for the field in your advert
If it asks you to provide a CV
Enter your CV details in the specified field and observe the vacancy’s stated limit. If it asks for a full CV, organise relevant work history, skills and other pertinent details so the employer can find them easily. Do not assume the three-page limit in one example applies to another vacancy.

If it asks for an application form and supporting statement
Complete both in the requested way. Use the form and statement for the purposes the advert describes, and check whether they are assessed together or separately. Where a word limit is given, plan the statement around the criteria rather than repeating the same information without showing how it supports your application.

If instructions conflict or a field does not work
Use the contact route in the vacancy or NHS Jobs help and guidance to clarify the issue. Do not email an unsolicited CV when the advert says not to; one example expressly prohibits emailing it. The instructions for your specific vacancy control.

Make each application specific and accurate
NHS Jobs advises candidates: “Never submit the same application form twice. Always adapt it to show how you meet the person specification of the particular post.” Reuse relevant facts from your CV if helpful, but tailor the evidence and wording to the role’s criteria instead of sending an unchanged application.
Keep examples truthful and based on your own experience. The Ministry of Defence advert on NHS Jobs likewise says application statements must be factually accurate and reflect the applicant’s own experience. Where relevant, supporting information can also explain employment gaps or include voluntary work, research, publications or presentations; include these only when they help demonstrate suitability and are accurate.

Before you submit
- Confirm every required section and field is complete.
- Check your examples against the person specification and the advert’s assessment instructions.
- Proofread the text in the form itself, especially after pasting content.
- Keep a copy of the advert and your submitted text for your own records.
The record-keeping step is a practical precaution, not a stated NHS Jobs platform requirement.
