The NexiGo PJ40 Gen 3 is a native 1080p LCD projector with flexible placement options and a useful set of connections, but its brightness is unsettled: NexiGo specifies 700 ANSI lumens, while RTINGS lists 600. Neither figure should be treated as a measurement made for this review. It may suit a budget home-theater setup if you can control room light and provide the right throw distance; don’t buy it expecting native 4K or the licensed streaming apps advertised for a different PJ40 variant.
What the PJ40 Gen 3 is—and what it isn’t
The PJ40 Gen 3 uses LCD display technology and an LED light source. NexiGo lists its native resolution as 1920 × 1080. That is the projector’s actual pixel resolution; support for higher-resolution local playback, where listed, does not make the projected image native 4K. NexiGo’s PJ40 support page provides the model specifications and manuals.

NexiGo describes the Gen 3 style as “D65 Calibrated” and says it is calibrated to D65/D75 temperature with ΔE<3. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent calibration result. The available evidence here does not establish measured color accuracy or picture quality.
How bright is it?
The published brightness figures conflict. NexiGo’s support specifications list 700 ANSI lumens; RTINGS’ PJ40 Gen 3 comparison lists 600 ANSI lumens. NexiGo and RTINGS are the sources for those respective figures. They are attributed specifications and review-table data, not measurements made for this article.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That difference matters because a projector’s brightness affects how well an image holds up against ambient light. The cited sources do not establish an independently tested ideal screen size or a specific room-light limit for this model. Plan to use it where you can reduce light, and treat the lumen figures as a reason to be cautious about expecting a bright, large image in a lit room.
How far from the screen does it need to be?
NexiGo lists a 1.47:1 throw ratio, a projection-size range of 50–300 inches, and a distance range of 4.72–30.18 feet. The ratio gives a practical estimate: distance from lens to screen is about 1.47 times the image width. For a 100-inch, 16:9 image, the picture is about 87 inches wide, so the estimated lens-to-screen distance is about 10.6 feet. This is a calculation from the manufacturer’s ratio, not a separately tested placement result.

Measure from the projector lens to the screen, not from the wall behind the projector. The usable placement also depends on your room layout and the image size you want. Check the PJ40 manual and confirm the actual image geometry in your space before fixing the projector in place.

Focus is manual. NexiGo specifies automatic vertical keystone correction up to ±30° and manual horizontal correction up to ±20°. Keystone correction reshapes the image digitally to address a tilted projection; it is not optical lens shift. For the cleanest geometry, place the projector square to the screen and use correction only as needed.

NexiGo says the projector can be ceiling mounted after removing its four corner feet. Its support specifications give M5 × 13.5 mm mounting holes, spaced 10.9 inches diagonally, 8 inches horizontally, and 7.3 inches vertically. Verify the mount’s hole pattern and fasteners against those measurements rather than assuming a universal bracket will fit.
Connections and streaming: check the exact variant
NexiGo lists two HDMI inputs, two USB inputs, a 3.5 mm AV input, line out, RJ45 Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.1, and dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi. It also specifies two 10W speakers. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent tests of connection performance or sound quality.

Do not assume that the Gen 3 includes licensed Netflix, YouTube, or Prime Video apps. RTINGS’ comparison identifies those licensed apps with the PJ40 Ultra, not the PJ40 Gen 3; it lists the PJ40 Pro and Ultra as separate variants as well. Confirm the exact model and your intended streaming route before buying. The available evidence does not establish that Gen 3 has those licensed apps built in.
NexiGo’s support information also covers screen casting and wired iPhone/iPad connection. If you plan to use a phone, check the relevant manual for the required adapter or connection method. For Bluetooth audio synchronization problems with an external device, NexiGo recommends switching Wi-Fi from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz.

Noise, cleaning, and firmware guidance
NexiGo gives an example noise figure of 39 dB at 1.6 feet with the fans at full speed. The manufacturer notes that noise depends on distance and fan setting, so this example is not a universal operating-noise measurement.
The manufacturer recommends cleaning the removable dust cover monthly. Its PJ40 support guidance says: “Unless you have issues with the camera, we don’t recommend any firmware updates.” Follow the guidance for the relevant PJ40 version and consult the support page before changing firmware.
Should you buy the PJ40 Gen 3?
It is worth considering if you want native 1080p, have a room where you can manage ambient light, and can position the projector at the distance your screen size requires. Its documented inputs and mounting options give it setup flexibility, but the brightness discrepancy makes expectations important.

- Look elsewhere if: you need established licensed streaming apps on the projector itself, a bright image in a room with substantial ambient light, or native 4K.
- Before ordering: confirm model identity, current stock, and current price. NexiGo’s product listing showed the Gen 3 style out of stock when crawled, and availability can change.
RTINGS’ comparison lists the PJ40 Pro at 800 ANSI lumens and describes it as similar but brighter; it lists the PJ40 Ultra at 800 ANSI lumens and identifies its licensed Netflix, YouTube, and Prime Video support. Those are distinct models, and the listed lumen figures come from RTINGS, not NexiGo’s Gen 3 specification. See RTINGS’ model comparison to check the distinctions.
