That estimate is provisional, so leave additional free space rather than planning around exactly 27 GB. Nintendo has not published PC-style CPU, GPU or RAM requirements because this release is specified for one console platform.
Official requirements at a glance
Nintendo’s current product listing is the controlling source for the platform and storage information. It identifies this edition as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 and labels it “Exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.” The same page lists November 5, 2026, as the release date and gives an estimated 27 GB game file size.

| Item | What Nintendo currently lists | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Required platform | Nintendo Switch 2 | Plan to play on Switch 2; the listing does not identify an original Nintendo Switch version. |
| Game file size | Estimated 27 GB | Reserve more than 27 GB because the figure can change before launch and does not establish the final update requirement. |
| Release date | November 5, 2026 | The listed date is the target shown on Nintendo’s current product page. |
| PC specifications | Not stated | There are no published Windows, macOS or Linux requirements in this listing; this is a console release. |
The page also carries a preorder notice: “It’s possible that information related to the game, including ratings and download size, may not be finalized at time of preorder.” In practical terms, 27 GB is the best current planning number, not a guaranteed final download.
What “system requirements” means for this Zelda release
Console requirement
For a console-exclusive game, the primary requirement is owning the named console. Nintendo’s wording does not describe a minimum and recommended configuration as a PC store would. You do not need to match a processor model, graphics card, operating-system version or memory target; those components are fixed inside the Switch 2 platform.
#1 Best Overall
- This is the world edition. It has different packaging but is fully authentic and works on US region 3DS systems.
- The Legend of Zelda veterans can look forward to the Master Quest - a second quest with revamped puzzles and redesigned dungeons.
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is a masterful improvement on one of the landmark releases in video game history.
- “E10+”, w/Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence, Suggestive Themes
Original Switch compatibility
The official listing says the game is exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. No original Nintendo Switch edition is identified on that page. If you own the earlier console, do not assume that purchasing this listing will provide a playable version for it. Check the product description again at launch for any change in platform information; the currently published requirement is Switch 2.
What Nintendo has not specified
Nintendo has not published a separate figure for required RAM, graphics performance, installation cache, save-data space, patch size or the amount of free space required after updates. Those omissions are normal for a fixed-hardware console listing, but they matter when you are deciding whether a nearly full storage device is sufficient.
How much storage to reserve
Use 27 GB as a floor, not a target
The 27 GB number is an estimate for the game file. Because Nintendo explicitly says the download size may not be finalized at preorder, a console with exactly 27 GB available could still be short when the final package or a launch update is released. Keep a safety margin beyond the estimate. The listing does not provide an official margin, so no precise “27 GB plus X” requirement can be stated responsibly.
Internal and expandable storage
Your available capacity may come from the console’s internal storage, compatible expandable storage, or a combination recognized by the system. The relevant test is the free space reported by Switch 2 at the time you download or install the game. Nintendo’s product page does not state how the 27 GB is divided between internal and expandable storage, so do not infer a required split from the headline figure.
Other data competes for space
Installed games, update packages, screenshots, video captures and downloadable content can all reduce the room available for a new installation. Before November 5, review what is occupying storage and remove or archive data you no longer need. Keep save data and any data you intend to use again; deleting an installed game is different from deleting its saves, but the exact management choices and labels should be confirmed on your console’s current storage-management screen.
Why headroom is useful
Free space gives the console room to download, verify and apply a package without forcing an emergency deletion. It also protects you if Nintendo revises the estimate or publishes a day-one update. Since no patch size has been announced, the prudent approach is to make space before release rather than waiting for the download to report an error.
Download size is not the same as every byte you may use
A store-page file-size estimate is a planning figure, not a complete storage budget. The final download can be revised, and an update may be distributed separately. Nintendo has not published the size of any launch update, optional content, language package or temporary installation data for this release. Do not add an invented patch allowance to the 27 GB figure; simply leave meaningful headroom and check the final listing when Nintendo updates it.
Recommended Free Tools
The estimate also should not be interpreted as the amount of internet data you will always consume in one session. A download can be interrupted and resumed, and a console may retain temporary data while installing. The official page gives no bandwidth, download-time or repeat-download figures, so those depend on your connection and the final package.
Digital and physical purchase planning
Digital and physical ownership solve different problems. Nintendo’s 27 GB estimate is directly relevant to a digital download. A physical edition, if offered for the Switch 2 release, is the more direct option for someone who wants to minimize the amount of base game data kept as a downloaded file. It is not safe to promise that a cartridge eliminates all storage use: Nintendo has not stated whether an update or additional installation will be required.
| Decision factor | Digital purchase | Physical purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Required console | Switch 2, as listed by Nintendo | Switch 2 edition, if that edition is available |
| Base downloaded data | Plan around the current 27 GB estimate, with extra headroom | May reduce the base download kept on the console; the listing does not state the exact installed amount |
| Updates or additional downloads | Final requirements are not yet published | A physical copy may still need an update or additional data; Nintendo has not specified the amount |
| Switching between games | Convenient when several digital titles are installed | Requires changing the game card when switching titles |
| Physical collection | No cartridge to store or collect | Provides a tangible copy if you value physical ownership |
If storage is your deciding factor, check the physical The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 edition when purchase details are finalized. That wording does not guarantee stock, pricing or a zero-download installation; it identifies the edition to look for while Nintendo completes the listing.

- Or the Master Quest edition with many bonus features
Preparation checklist before November 5, 2026
- Confirm the platform. Verify that your console is a Nintendo Switch 2. The current listing does not identify an original Switch version.
- Check the listing date. Nintendo currently shows November 5, 2026. Recheck the product page as launch approaches because preorder information can change.
- Measure available space. Open the Switch 2 storage-management controls and note free capacity on the storage location you use for downloads.
- Create headroom. Make more room than the estimated 27 GB, without treating any unofficial buffer as a Nintendo requirement.
- Plan for updates. Keep additional capacity available because Nintendo has not published a final update or installation figure.
- Choose an ownership format. Use digital distribution for download convenience, or investigate the physical Switch 2 edition if reducing downloaded base data and owning a cartridge matter more.
- Recheck final information. Nintendo says the download size and other information may not be finalized at preorder, so use the latest product-page figure when the game is ready to install.
What to do if the download will not start
Insufficient storage message
First, compare the free-space figure shown by the console with the latest Nintendo listing, not just the original 27 GB estimate. Remove or archive unneeded installed software and captures, then retry. If the final package has grown, the console may require more space than the preorder estimate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPlatform mismatch
If the game does not appear as compatible with your hardware, check the product label. The current listing is marked exclusively for Switch 2. An original Switch owner should not treat a purchase made for the Switch 2 edition as evidence of backward compatibility.
Changed information at launch
If Nintendo revises the file size or publishes a new notice, use that current value for planning. The official The Legend of Zelda news index lists an October 14, 2026 Ocarina of Time overview-trailer update, and it is a useful place to watch for official announcements alongside the product page. Neither page currently supplies a different storage figure than the estimated 27 GB listing.
What is known, and what remains unannounced
| Question | Answer supported by the current listing |
|---|---|
| Which console runs this edition? | Nintendo Switch 2; Nintendo calls it exclusive to that platform. |
| How large is the download? | Estimated 27 GB, subject to change before release. |
| When is it listed for release? | November 5, 2026. |
| Will it run on the original Switch? | No original-Switch edition is identified; compatibility is not indicated by the current listing. |
| How large is the launch patch? | Not stated. |
| How much free space is officially required beyond 27 GB? | Not stated. |
| Are PC specifications available? | Not applicable to this console listing and not stated. |
| Does a physical copy avoid every download? | Not stated; an update or additional data may still be required. |
Bottom line for buyers
Plan for a Nintendo Switch 2, not the original Switch, and budget storage around an estimated 27 GB with extra room. Treat that number as provisional until Nintendo publishes the final download information. Digital buyers should clear space ahead of launch; buyers who prefer less downloaded base data can investigate the physical Switch 2 edition, while recognizing that Nintendo has not yet specified any required update or additional installation. The official product page remains the authority for the final size and platform details.
