Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are new role-playing games scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide launch in 2027, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Their reveal introduced two specially named Pikachu—Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu—making them the strongest candidates yet for the fan label “Pikachu clones.” That “best” judgment is editorial, not an official ranking by The Pokémon Company.
What was officially announced
The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves as all-new entries in the Pokémon video game series. Both games will launch worldwide at the same time in 2027 and will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2.

Why they qualify as the leading Pikachu-clone candidates
“Pikachu clone” is a fan term for a Pokémon that echoes Pikachu’s mascot role or visual formula. It is not an official category. Earlier examples often cited by fans include Plusle, Minun, Pachirisu, Emolga, Dedenne, Togedemaru, Morpeko and Pawmi. Those Pokémon are separate species; the new pair are explicitly identified as special Pikachu.
| Comparison factor | Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu | What is established for earlier lookalikes |
|---|---|---|
| Species status | Officially presented as special Pikachu | Separate Pokémon species |
| Connection to a new game generation | Debut alongside the new Winds and Waves generation | Varies by species and original release |
| Individual official names | Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu | Species names, rather than these character-style titles |
| Confirmed gameplay role | Not stated | Depends on each species and game |
| Merchandise availability | Not announced | Not assessed here |
On the first three measures, the new pair have an unusually strong claim: they are actual Pikachu variants, have individual names, and are tied directly to the next major Pokémon RPG release. Calling either one objectively “the best” would go beyond what the announcement says; the case is based on novelty and unusually direct official confirmation.

What remains to be revealed about the two Pikachu
- Whether Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu have different types, moves or abilities.
- Whether both appear in each game or remain version-associated characters.
- How they participate in the story and whether players can obtain them.
- Whether they receive dedicated merchandise or other licensed products.
- The visual details that distinguish each design beyond the initial “brand-new look” description.
Until those announcements arrive, comparisons should stay limited to confirmed identity, naming and connection to the 2027 games.
Bottom line on the “best Pikachu clone” claim
Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu are the most compelling Pikachu-clone story because The Pokémon Company explicitly calls them special Pikachu, gives each a distinctive name and debuts them with a new worldwide Pokémon RPG generation. They are not officially ranked above Plusle, Minun or the other familiar lookalikes, and their ultimate appeal will depend on designs, gameplay and availability that have not been shown yet.
