Apple has not announced a new MacBook Pro beyond the M5 Pro and M5 Max models it launched on March 3, 2026. What exists beyond that is reporting: a base 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip is said to be expected in October, and a separate, more dramatic OLED redesign is rumored for later. Here is how to tell those apart, and how to decide whether to buy now or wait.
What Apple has confirmed
Apple announced 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips on March 3, 2026, according to Apple Newsroom. These are the current, verified models, and the only ones you can compare against with real specifications. Apple’s announcement says nothing about the rumored next model.

What is reported, not confirmed
A base 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, reportedly in October
On August 25, 2026, MacRumors reported, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, that Apple was expected to refresh the base 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip in October. “Expected” is a forecast from a reporter, not an Apple announcement. That report does not establish an event date, preorder date, retail availability, price, or a full specification list.

A higher-end OLED redesign, timing unclear
Separate reporting describes a more significant redesign with an OLED display and touchscreen features, potentially arriving in late 2026 or early 2027 (MacRumors). A TechRadar article from October 5, 2026 covers a rumor that an OLED model could be noticeably lighter, alongside touchscreen and chip speculation, and raises concerns about cost and battery life. All of that is rumor. Its timing, features and pricing are unconfirmed.

Should you buy now or wait?
No source establishes performance, price or feature differences for the future models, so any claim that waiting will be worth it is speculation. Use your own timing instead.
Buying now makes sense if
- You need a laptop within weeks and can’t gamble on an unannounced date.
- You want the 16-inch size or the top-end chip tier, since the reported October update concerns only the base 14-inch model.
- You’d rather have a shipping, reviewed machine than a first-generation redesign.
Waiting makes sense if
- You want the base 14-inch model and can wait a few weeks to see whether Apple announces the reported M6 refresh.
- The OLED redesign is what you actually want. It is the furthest away and the least certain, so it is a longer wait with no guarantee.
If you do decide to buy today, the current choices are the 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max. Check Apple’s own site for current configurations and pricing before you commit.

- The full M6 specification list.
- Whether the OLED redesign arrives in 2026 or slips later.
Treat Apple’s own announcement as the point at which any of this becomes fact.
