Apple has not announced a HomePod mini 2, a HomePad, or a touchscreen HomePod. The latest reported date for a HomePod mini successor and a smart-home display is October 13, 2026, but that date—and all reported features—remains unconfirmed. If you need a speaker now, Apple does document the HomePod mini and HomePod (2nd generation) as current products.
When is the HomePod mini 2 coming out?
Macworld’s roundup, updated October 1, 2026, reports October 13 as a possible date for a HomePod mini successor and a smart-home display. Apple has not confirmed an announcement or release date. Earlier predictions for new Home products slipped, so treat October 13 as a rumor, not a scheduled launch. Macworld’s current HomePod rumor roundup discusses the reported timing and its uncertainty.

A September 30, 2026, Tom’s Guide report also describes October 13 as a possible announcement date, citing Bloomberg reporting. That is secondary coverage of an unconfirmed plan, not an Apple announcement. Macworld says a new full-size HomePod is in development but not imminent, while a touchscreen HomePod has no firm launch window.

“HomePad,” “Smart Home Hub,” and “Personal Hub” are labels used in rumor coverage for a proposed standalone smart-home display. They are not confirmed Apple product names. The reported concept is a compact screen for home controls, Siri, calls, and Apple services, with tabletop and wall-mounted versions discussed. The exact display size, apps, sensors, and camera features have not been established as Apple specifications. Macworld’s roundup covers the reported concept; Tom’s Guide also summarizes reported features.

Separate reporting uses “HomePod Touch” for a HomePod-style speaker with an integrated screen. That is also an unconfirmed label. It is not clear whether this speaker concept and the standalone HomePad are distinct products, whether Apple might combine or rename them, or whether either will ship. A 9to5Mac report about identifiers found in macOS code describes clues interpreted as possible tabletop and wall-mounted home hubs and a HomePod mini successor. Code references do not confirm retail names, final specifications, or a launch.
What features are rumored for the HomePod mini 2?
Rumor coverage describes a compact design similar to the current mini, revised color choices, a newer processor, and possible wireless-connectivity and audio improvements. Macworld reports that five colors appeared in code and says an S9-or-newer chip is expected. Apple has not published specifications for a successor, so none of those details should be treated as confirmed.

What HomePod can you buy now?
Apple’s specification pages document two current speakers: the HomePod mini and HomePod (2nd generation). The HomePod mini technical specifications list touch controls, temperature and humidity sensors, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, Thread, Ultra Wideband, system requirements, and a 20W power adapter in the box. The HomePod (2nd generation) technical specifications list supported audio sources, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, Thread, Ultra Wideband, system requirements, and an included power cable.

Those specifications establish features, not a head-to-head verdict on sound quality or value. Choose based on the room, your audio needs, the Apple devices and services you use, and any smart-home accessories you plan to connect. For Thread accessories, Apple Support guidance says a Thread-enabled home hub is required; examples include Apple TV 4K, HomePod (2nd generation), HomePod mini, or a third-party Thread border router. Check compatibility for the particular accessory and household setup rather than assuming that Thread support alone guarantees it will work.

If you need a speaker now, compare the documented HomePod mini and HomePod (2nd generation) against your needs rather than buying on the expectation of a specific launch date. If your main interest is a successor or a screen-based home controller and you can wait, holding off may help you avoid buying shortly before a possible announcement. The trade-off is uncertainty: October 13, the product names, and the rumored features are not confirmed, and the concepts may change or never be released.

For historical context, MacRumors’ February 13, 2026, roundup anticipated earlier timing for Apple home products. Those expectations did not materialize on the schedule then discussed, which is a reason not to treat a rumor date as a commitment.
