September 2026 brought a varied set of headphone and earbud announcements, from open-ear designs to wired USB-C earbuds with active noise cancellation. Apple and Bose supplied the clearest confirmed launch details; a TechRadar roundup also names new Sony, Beats, Sonos, Nothing and Technics models, but detailed specifications and terms for those products are not established here.
What new headphones and earbuds were revealed in September 2026?
The roundup names nine products: Apple AirPods 5; Sony WH-CH730N, WH-CH530 and WH-1000XM4C; Beats 360; Sonos Ace Ultra; Nothing Headphone (1) Pro; and Technics EAH-A1000. Official announcements add three Bose products to the September launch picture: Sport Open Earbuds, Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen), and Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds. They illustrate how different the month’s releases are: open-ear listening for movement and awareness, versus wired USB-C earbuds with noise cancellation.

How the confirmed products differ in practice
AirPods 5: wireless earbuds with a charging-case option
Apple announced AirPods 5 on September 9, 2026. The two US configurations differ in the included case: the $149 option has a Wireless Charging Case, while the standard option launched at $129. Apple’s stated up-to-22-hour total applies to the version with the Wireless Charging Case; its up-to-five-hour single-charge figure is with ANC on. These figures should not be read as guaranteed listening time in every use pattern. Apple’s announcement gives the regional prices, availability and test conditions.
Bose open-ear earbuds: two options aimed at active listening
Bose announced both open-ear models on September 17, 2026. The Sport Open Earbuds are presented for exercise and outdoor activities; the Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) are positioned as the flagship. Bose listed US prices of $199 and $299 respectively, with October 1 availability. The announcement does not provide a basis for comparing their real-world sound, comfort or battery performance against one another or against other products. Read Bose’s announcement.
