Netflix is reportedly weighing a workforce reduction affecting about 5% of its staff, but the company has not confirmed any layoffs. Variety reported on Oct. 10, 2026, that Puck’s report, based on anonymous sources, said the cuts could be announced as early as the following week. Netflix declined to comment, and the departments involved, final timing and any company-stated reason remain unknown.

Netflix had about 16,000 full-time employees at the end of 2025, according to company figures reported by Variety. Applying the reported 5% to that approximate headcount produces an estimate of about 800 positions. That is arithmetic based on two approximate, reported figures—not a confirmed layoff total.

Variety also reported that about 10,900 employees, roughly 68% of the workforce, were in the U.S. and Canada in December 2025. The reporting does not say how any potential cuts would be distributed by geography.
When are Netflix’s Q3 2026 results?
Netflix said it planned to post its third-quarter 2026 financial results and business outlook on Oct. 20, 2026, at approximately 1:01 p.m. Pacific Time. A management video interview was scheduled to begin at 1:45 p.m. Pacific. These were future events as of Oct. 11, 2026; the results had not yet been released. The reported possibility of an announcement the following week is not an official layoff date.

Netflix’s Q2 2026 shareholder letter reported revenue of $12.6 billion, up 13% year over year, and forecast Q3 revenue growth of 12% with an operating margin of 33.2%. Those figures give financial context ahead of the results, but neither the letter nor the layoff reporting establishes them as a cause of the reported plan.
What remains unknown
- Whether Netflix will proceed with layoffs at all.
- The final timing, if any action is announced.
- The number of jobs or departments that might be affected.
- A company-stated rationale for the reported proposal.
At a September 2026 conference, co-CEO Ted Sarandos said, “Yes, overall, we’re not growing as fast as I want us to, and we’re working on making that move faster,” according to Variety. The remark is leadership context; it does not establish a connection to the reported layoffs.
