Netflix’s cited device guide explains where you can watch Netflix, but it does not document a built-in feature for remotely syncing playback with friends. For a synchronized Netflix watch party, one documented option is Teleparty, a third-party tool that syncs playback and includes text chat. Everyone needs access to the streaming service being watched and Teleparty software.
What you need before starting
- A Netflix account for the host, who must be signed in and have a title playing before starting the party.
- Access to the same associated streaming service for every participant.
- Teleparty’s browser extension for each participant using the browser workflow. Teleparty also mentions an Android app; check its current support information if you are not using the extension path.
Teleparty was formerly called Netflix Party. It is a third-party service, not a Netflix feature or an endorsement by Netflix. Teleparty identifies its product and former name; its support page describes participant requirements.

How to start a Netflix watch party
- Install the Teleparty extension in a supported browser. Teleparty recommends pinning the extension so its button is easy to reach.
- Open Netflix, sign in, choose a title, and go to its playback page.
- Select the TP button in your browser to create the party and get its invitation link.
- Send the link to your guests. Anyone who does not have the extension will be directed to install it.
- Wait for guests to join, then start playback. Teleparty describes synchronized playback and an in-page text chat. See Teleparty’s Netflix setup instructions.
Which devices work?
Netflix supports ordinary viewing through its app on supported smart TVs, phones, tablets, streaming players, and game consoles, as well as through netflix.com on a computer. That does not mean every Netflix-capable device supports Teleparty: the documented party workflow uses a browser extension, while Teleparty also mentions an Android app. Check Teleparty’s current support information for your setup rather than assuming that a device that plays Netflix can host or join a party.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsNetflix notes that its service may no longer be available on some TVs and streaming devices made before 2015. Netflix’s supported-devices page covers ordinary Netflix viewing, not Teleparty compatibility.
