The Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio NCU600 is a capsule coffee machine for the Dolce Gusto system. It offers hot and cold selection, adjustable drink volume and an XL setting. The manufacturer’s manual lists a 1 L water tank and a maximum pressure of 15 bar. This review is based on the official Lumio user manual and NESCAFÉ’s published material. It does not report hands-on testing of taste, noise, temperature consistency, durability or reliability.

Before you rely on the electrical figures, check that the label on your machine matches NCU600 and the GB/IE/SG market. The manual’s technical-data section is marked for those markets, and voltage and power vary by region.

The manual’s safety section says: “We recommend using the NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® capsules designed and tested for the NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® machine.” The statement comes from NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto as the manual’s publisher.
Third-party and refillable capsules
The manual does not establish compatibility or safety for third-party or refillable capsules. This article does not recommend them, and a non-system capsule may not work as the pack describes.

- Fill the water tank (1 L maximum) and confirm the water level before you start.
- Set the selection lever to hot or cold, as the capsule pack directs.
- Use the volume selector to choose the capsule’s recommended volume, or your own preference. The display shows the selection.
- Load the capsule or capsules into the capsule holder, following the one-capsule or two-capsule recipe for the drink.
- Wait while the indicator blinks red. Warm-up takes approximately 40 seconds, after which the indicator stays steady green.
- Start extraction. You can stop it manually at any point.
- For XL, select the XL function. Wait around 1.5 minutes before preparing a second XL beverage.

Cleaning and descaling
After each preparation
The manual tells owners to rinse the capsule holder after preparation. The water tank and drip tray are not dishwasher-proof. The capsule holder can go in a dishwasher, according to the manual.
Descaling interval and method
The manual says to descale at least every 3–4 months. It specifies NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto liquid descaler and says not to use vinegar. For the descaling solution, the manual describes mixing the descaler with 0.5 L of fresh drinking water. Use this as the manual states it, and follow the descaler’s own packaging for dilution.

The manual gives these signs that descaling is due:
- A steady orange indicator
- Slower-than-usual flow, including drips
- Cooler-than-usual output
The manual’s exact warning is: “Do not use vinegar for descaling!”

No liquid comes out
- Check the water level in the tank first.
- If the machine still delivers no liquid, the manual describes a blocked capsule or injector procedure. Stop preparation and release the pressure as the manual directs.
- Clean the injector with the cleaning needle.
A blocked capsule may still be under pressure. Follow the manual’s safety steps before you open anything, and do not drink coffee made from the affected capsule.

Indicator flashes red quickly
The manual says to unplug the machine and wait 20 minutes. If the problem persists, contact official support.

- Local availability and production status
- Warranty terms in your country
- Whether NCU600-specific spare parts are in stock
- Independent results on taste, noise, temperature or reliability
Ask a local retailer or NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto support for these details. The Australian FAQ notes that the model and EDG/Type/NCU number help support identify a machine, but that does not confirm that any component is available. The UK Lumio Krups support page covers setup, cleaning, descaling, troubleshooting and beverages. Its full text was not available for this article, so the steps above come from the manual.
The Bottom Line
The Lumio NCU600 suits someone who already wants the Dolce Gusto capsule system and values manual volume control, a hot/cold selector and an XL setting. It also suits owners who will keep to the 3–4 month descaling routine with liquid descaler and no vinegar. If you prefer to use non-system capsules, or you need documented performance results, look elsewhere.
