They describe Nerial as entering “hibernation mode,” not as a studio whose founders have ruled out making games again. Devolver’s past acquisition and publishing role is documented, but the available sources do not specify the exact catalogue rights Devolver retains after the 2026 decision.
What Nerial’s founders announced
In a statement reproduced by Gematsu on October 1, 2026, Nerial founders Tamara and François Alliot said: “After 13 years and 11 published games, we have decided together with our partners at Devolver to end development at the studio.” Gematsu’s report describes the studio as entering “hibernation mode.” The 13-year and 11-game figures are the founders’ characterization, rather than an independently audited count.
The founders said the team would look for new opportunities. They also said they planned to take a break and return with a new perspective. That leaves open the possibility of future game development by the founders; it does not establish when, where, or under what name that might happen. Gematsu and Eurogamer reported the announcement on October 1–2, 2026.
What is known about Devolver and the catalogue
Devolver’s relationship with Nerial predates this announcement. Nerial says it became part of Devolver in 2021; Devolver’s 2021 admission document dates its acquisition of Nerial to May that year and says it had published Reigns and continued to publish Nerial titles. Devolver’s admission document is historical disclosure, not a statement about rights after the 2026 development decision.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
So the title’s “retains Nerial catalogue” wording needs a limit: the sources establish Devolver’s acquisition and publishing history, but no 2026 primary statement located here defines which rights it holds now. They do not settle ownership or control of every game, franchise, sequel, adaptation, or merchandise right. Devolver’s games catalogue lists titles, but is not a rights notice.
Nerial’s history and games named in the announcement
Nerial says it began making games in 2013 and found its first commercial success with Reigns in 2016. Its official About page lists Card Shark as a 2022 release. Nerial’s About page provides that studio history.
