Nekome: Nazi Hunter is a single-player, third-person action game about Vano Nastasu, a young Romani survivor who turns the murder of his family into a campaign of revenge against Nazi forces. ProbablyMonsters describes Nekome as a mission-based action game rather than a conventional World War II military shooter. The campaign follows his transformation from hunted survivor to hunter, with each operation built around choosing how to reach, isolate and eliminate hostile forces.

A mission can begin with observation and careful positioning, then turn into a sudden attack or a frantic brawl when the plan breaks down. The game is designed around the idea that preparation makes violence more effective, not around a single required play style.

Why Inglourious Basterds and Sisu are important inspirations
Game director and ProbablyMonsters general manager Jeronimo Barrera said in a PCGamesN interview published March 30, 2026: “We’re big fans of Inglorious Basterds and Sisu, and we thought that kind of player fantasy was missing in games.” He described the goal as taking the familiar satisfaction of fighting Nazis in games to a more extreme level, including lethal finishers rather than only fistfights.

Those references explain the game’s tone. Inglourious Basterds supplies the heightened revenge premise and the pleasure of confronting Nazi power through individual acts of violence. Sisu points toward a near-mythic survivor who keeps advancing through overwhelming odds. Nekome uses those influences as a framework for interactive decisions: the player scouts a route, sets up an ambush, chooses a target and decides whether to disappear or keep attacking.
The result is intended as catharsis rather than a neutral historical simulation. Barrera’s October 15, 2026 comments describe an art direction influenced by grindhouse cinema and graphic novels. Violence is stylized and entertaining, while the subject matter remains serious because the story is rooted in genocide, occupation and the destruction of a Romani family.
Who is Vano Nastasu?
Vano is a young Romani man whose family is murdered by Nazi soldiers. That personal loss is the reason the game follows revenge instead of a broad military campaign. The World War II setting is seen through one survivor’s rage, fear and determination, giving the conflict an intimate point of view rather than presenting it only as a sequence of strategic battles.

His identity also matters to the premise. Vano is not presented as an anonymous commando or a conventional army hero. He begins as someone being hunted and acquires power through observation, improvisation and repeated confrontations. The game’s exaggerated combat is therefore tied to grief and survival, not detached spectacle.
How stealth and combat work together
Nekome supports stealth, but it is not a pure stealth game. Preview descriptions identify several connected tools and systems:
- Scout the route. Study patrol paths, entrances and opportunities before committing to an attack.
- Prepare the assault. Select a position, set traps or identify an assassination opportunity.
- Control the first contact. Quiet takedowns and improvised weapons can prevent a wider alert.
- React when the plan changes. Timed combat responses and brutal close-range attacks let Vano survive when enemies discover him.
- Shape the wider area. Destroying propaganda is one of the reported activities, adding a symbolic objective alongside physical combat.
That structure is why comparisons to Batman: Arkham and Sifu appear in preview coverage. The comparison concerns the feel of responsive melee encounters and chained reactions, not a claim that Nekome copies either game’s setting or progression system.

The enemy-awareness and notoriety systems
Enemy awareness is shared and persistent. A careless kill can alert nearby patrols, while delaying too long can allow reinforcements to arrive. Encounters are therefore affected by what happened earlier in the mission instead of resetting after every fight.

Repeated kills can make nearby enemies panic or flee, creating a fear response that changes the tactical situation. This gives the player two competing ways to gain an advantage: remain unseen, or become so dangerous that opposition loses its nerve.

How graphic is the presentation?
The game is intentionally violent. Its finishing moves are described as grounded and visceral, while the overall visual language is heightened by grindhouse films and graphic novels. That combination means Nekome is not aiming for a restrained historical drama or a sanitized action game.

The serious context does not disappear because the action is exaggerated. Vano’s family murder, his Romani identity and the Nazi persecution at the center of the story provide the emotional foundation. Players who are uncomfortable with graphic executions or revenge-focused depictions of World War II should treat the tone as a major part of the purchasing decision.

As of October 16, 2026, ProbablyMonsters’ official page presents the project with a “Wishlist Now” call to action. The game is still in development; preview coverage has characterized builds as pre-alpha or alpha.

The demo window is a scheduled event, not confirmation of the final launch date. Until ProbablyMonsters announces a release date and platforms beyond the reported Steam demo, the safest expectation is that Nekome remains an in-development PC project with timing subject to change.

Is Nekome basically a playable Inglourious Basterds?
It is a fair shorthand for the fantasy, but not a complete description. Like that film, Nekome turns retaliation against Nazi forces into heightened entertainment. Like Sisu, it centers on a seemingly outmatched survivor who becomes extraordinarily dangerous. The game adds systems those comparisons cannot provide: route planning, stealth choices, persistent awareness, notoriety and the possibility that fear itself becomes a weapon.
In practical terms, Nekome is best understood as a stealth-action revenge game with a grindhouse presentation and a personal Romani protagonist. Its appeal will depend on whether you want to alternate between patient preparation and uncompromising melee violence, while accepting that the story treats World War II through a stylized revenge lens rather than a comprehensive historical campaign.
