Neeraj Chauhan won bronze in the men’s individual recurve event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on 3 October 2026, beating fellow Indian Dhiraj Bommadevara 6–4 in the set-point score. He recovered from two sets down to win the all-Indian medal match, with the result adding to India’s podium finishes across all five recurve events at these Games.
How Chauhan beat Bommadevara for bronze
The official match record shows five ends. In archery’s set format, each end contributes set points: a win earns two, a tie earns one each, and a loss earns none. Chauhan took the match 6–4 after trailing by two sets.

Why the bronze was significant for India
Hindustan Times reported that Chauhan’s medal was India’s first men’s individual recurve medal at the Asian Games in 16 years, since Tarundeep Rai won silver at Guangzhou 2010. That historical comparison is the outlet’s framing; the official event record confirms the 2026 result but does not itself establish a complete comparison across earlier Games editions.

The same report described India’s performance as its best-ever Asian Games showing in recurve because Indian archers reached the podium in all five recurve events at Aichi-Nagoya. It listed Kumkum Mohod’s women’s individual gold, silver medals in the men’s team and mixed team events for Mohod and Bommadevara, and Chauhan’s men’s individual bronze. This characterization is attributable to the report by Rutvick Mehta, updated 3 October 2026, rather than an independently verified historical ranking.
How the Indians reached the bronze match
Both archers entered the bronze contest after semifinal defeats. According to Hindustan Times, Bommadevara lost 7–3 to South Korea’s Lee Woo Seok, while Chauhan lost 7–1 to Japan’s Junya Nakanishi. The official event schedule places the men’s recurve semifinals, bronze match and gold match on 3 October; Lee Woo Seok and Nakanishi contested the final.
