The headline’s “140%” is a rounding of that figure. The reported numbers are attributed, dated, and time-sensitive. They establish what happened to the price and what was happening alongside it, but they do not establish why the token rose.
What the reported numbers say
The table below separates the figures reported in the October 8 article from the dated historical observations. The two kinds of figure carry different weight, so keep them apart when you cite them.

| Metric | Figure | Source and date | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30-day price change | +138% (headline rounds to 140%) | Cointelegraph, October 8, 2026, citing CoinGecko | Attributed to the report and its data provider; not independently recalculated |
| Market ranking | Top 20 by market capitalization; reported as ahead of Stellar | Cointelegraph, October 8, 2026 | Exact rank and the methodology behind it are not established |
| Token price | About $5.51 | Cointelegraph article-time snapshot | A snapshot, not a current quote |
| Market capitalization | About $7.2 billion | Cointelegraph article-time snapshot | Moves with price and circulating supply |
| 24-hour trading volume | About $1.2 billion | Cointelegraph article-time snapshot | Spot trading volume over one day |
| Close, September 20, 2026 | $4.16 | CoinGecko historical data | Dated close; start-of-window context |
| Close, September 30, 2026 | $5.34 | CoinGecko historical data | Dated close; mid-window context |
Why the dated closes do not settle the 30-day figure
The two CoinGecko closes are useful, but they cannot confirm the 138% figure on their own. Between September 20 and September 30, the price rose from $4.16 to $5.34, a gain of roughly 28%. From September 30 to the article-time snapshot of about $5.51, the gain is roughly 3%. Neither interval covers the full 30-day window that the report measured, and the report’s start date is not restated in the article. The closes show that the token climbed sharply within that period. They do not reproduce the headline percentage.
To check the figure yourself, pull NEAR’s daily closing prices from CoinGecko’s historical data for the 30 days ending on the date the report measured, and compare the first and last closes in that window. Record the start date, end date, and data source with the result, because a 30-day change depends on the chosen endpoints.

What was reported alongside the move
The October 8 report and related official material describe several developments in the same weeks. Each one is documented differently, and none is shown to have caused the price change.
NEAR Intents volume
The report said NEAR Intents had passed $31 billion in cumulative transaction volume. The official NEAR Intents page, when accessed, displayed “$33B+ all-time volume across 35 chains.” These are two different measurements taken at different times. The $31 billion figure is a cumulative total cited in the article. The $33 billion-plus figure is a live counter on the official page, which changes as activity continues. Quote whichever figure you use with its date, and do not treat either as a stable historical statistic. The official page describes Intents as cross-chain liquidity infrastructure that abstracts transaction complexity from users.
Rank #2
Bitwise exchange-traded product
The report said a Bitwise exchange-traded product tracking NEAR began trading on NYSE Arca under the ticker NRR on September 29, 2026. An exchange-traded product gives investors exposure through a brokerage account, which is a different arrangement from holding the token directly. The sources reviewed for this article do not provide the product’s structure, custody arrangements, or investor protections, so this article does not compare them with holding NEAR in a self-custodied wallet.

Reported exploit and return of funds
The report also described a $3.8 million exploit involving NEAR Intents deposit and withdrawal infrastructure. It said NEAR General Manager Alex Shevchenko stated on October 2, 2026 that all funds had been returned. No primary incident disclosure or postmortem confirming the exploit details or the resolution was located. Treat this account as the report’s description, and check for a formal incident post from NEAR before relying on the specifics.
Draft issuance proposal
A NEAR governance forum post dated October 7, 2026 proposes ramping token issuance toward a 1.6% target rate over 24 months. The post is marked Draft. A draft proposal is open for discussion and has not been approved or implemented, so it does not change NEAR’s current issuance.
What the evidence does not show
- Cause. Intents volume, the exchange-traded product launch, and the exploit report all appeared in the same weeks as the rally. Appearing at the same time is not evidence that any of them produced it.
- Exact ranking. The report places NEAR in the top 20 and ahead of Stellar. The exact position and the method used to rank it are not established by the sources reviewed.
- Current price. The $5.51 figure, the $7.2 billion market capitalization, and the $1.2 billion daily volume are article-time values from October 8, 2026. Prices change quickly, so check a live data provider before drawing any conclusion about the present.
- Issuance change. The 1.6% target is a proposal, not a change to NEAR’s tokenomics.
How to read a move like this
When you compare this rally with another token move, or follow NEAR’s progress over the coming weeks, apply the same checks each time:
Rank #4
- Use the same observation window and the same data provider for both assets.
- Look at market capitalization and circulating supply together, since a ranking can change without any change in price if supply changes.
- Separate spot trading volume from other activity measures, such as Intents transaction volume.
- Label each development as contemporaneous or causal. Only a direct causal link, not a timing overlap, justifies saying an event drove the price.
- Check whether each number is cumulative or a dated live snapshot before quoting it.
Risk context for holders and self-custody users
The reported exploit is the most relevant risk detail for readers who use NEAR Intents or hold assets through cross-chain infrastructure. A reported loss that was returned still indicates that deposit and withdrawal systems carry operational risk. Readers who hold NEAR directly should weigh that risk against the convenience of an exchange-traded product, which shifts custody and operational risk to the issuer and its service providers. The official NEAR Intents overview states that it is provided for general informational purposes only and does not constitute technical, financial, or legal advice.

NEAR’s price is volatile, and a 30-day gain of this size can reverse just as quickly. The reported figures are a useful record of one period, but they are not a forecast.

The Bottom Line
NEAR’s reported 138% gain over 30 days, its move into the top 20 by market capitalization, and the surrounding Intents, exchange-traded product, exploit, and governance news are all documented, but the reported evidence shows timing rather than cause. Treat the ranking and percentage as CoinGecko-attributed figures from October 8, 2026, and check current data before acting on them.
