On the same day, October 8, 2026, the stock closed 2.28% lower at ₹160.20 on the NSE. The two events were reported together, but the reports do not show that the production update moved the share price. The share decline coincided with a broad market sell-off.
Q2 FY27 operating figures
The quarterly numbers below come from an October 8, 2026 report attributed to CNBC TV18, which compares Q2 FY27 with Q2 FY26. A separate October 8 summary reports the same Q2 cement production figure. A BSE filing linked from that summary could not be opened, so the figures here are as reported in secondary coverage and have not been checked against the filing itself.

Why production and dispatches are different numbers
The 22% headline refers to production, meaning cement manufactured in the quarter. Dispatches measure cement that left the plants for customers. In Q2 FY27 the two were almost identical: dispatches were 779,428 MT, about 1,600 MT below production, and their year-over-year growth was also 22%. Because the gap is so small, the production figure is a reasonable proxy for volume shipped in the quarter, but it is still a different measure. A reader comparing with a company’s sales revenue, or with another quarter where stock built up or drew down, should use dispatches.

Cement is not the whole operating picture. NCL’s official site lists cement, ready-mix concrete, Bison Panel (cement-bonded particle board), and hydropower among its businesses. In Q2 FY27 those segments did not follow the cement trend.

Cement board
Board production rose 22% to 13,071 MT, but board dispatches fell 3% to 13,953 MT. Production ran ahead of shipments in the quarter, so the board business does not show the same volume momentum as the cement line.
Ready-mix concrete
RMC production and sales declined 10%, to 59,882 cubic metres from 66,185 cubic metres. RMC is the most direct contrast with cement, since both are concrete-related and both depend on construction activity.

Hydro power
Hydro-power generation fell 43%, from 16.14 MU to 9.22 MU. Hydro output depends on water availability and plant operation rather than on the cement cycle, so this decline should be read on its own terms. The reports do not explain the cause of the drop.
The half-year picture
For the six months ended September 30, 2026 (H1 FY27), the picture is less uniform than the quarter alone suggests. Cement is still up, but board and RMC are weaker over the half-year than in the quarter.

The half-year figures are from the same October 8 coverage and the summary that cites the BSE filing. The RMC volume for the half-year is given only as a percentage change in the reports reviewed. Cement-board production is down over six months even though it rose in the quarter, which means the first quarter of the year was weaker for board output.
The share move: what the close shows
The October 8 report gives the NSE close as ₹160.20, down 2.28%. That implies a prior close of about ₹163.9. The same report describes the market as being in a broad-based sell-off that day.

The reports do not quantify how far the broader market fell, and they do not compare NCL’s move with a sector index. Without those measures, the same-day timing cannot tell a reader how much of the 2.28% decline, if any, came from the production update.

The headline’s “stock slides 2.3%” is a rounding of the 2.28% close-to-close figure. It describes one day’s move and should not be read as a trend.

What the reports do not establish
- Cause of the share move. No source ties the decline to the operating update. The market backdrop is the only explanation given, and it is described in general terms.
- Industry-wide growth. The 22% figure is NCL’s own volume growth. The reports contain no industry statistic showing whether the wider cement market grew at the same rate.
- Reasons for the segment changes. The sources do not explain the board, RMC or hydro declines.
- Full financial results. On October 8, 2026, NCL’s quarterly-results page listed Q1 FY27 (June quarter) results but not Q2 FY27. Revenue, margins and profit for the quarter were not available in the reviewed coverage.
- Executive commentary. No management comment on the quarter was available in the reports reviewed.
The next verifiable step is the company’s Q2 FY27 results filing, which should show revenue, profit and management’s explanation of the segment movements. Until it is published, the operating figures above are the most specific data on the quarter.
