A VPN is not a verified or NBA-endorsed way to unlock League Pass blackouts. The NBA bases eligibility on the accessing device’s location, using its IP address or location services, and its terms prohibit attempted blackout circumvention. Check the game’s local availability and use an authorized broadcaster if it is blacked out live.
Can a VPN unlock NBA League Pass?
There is no reliable, official evidence that a particular VPN works with League Pass or that using one authorizes access to a blacked-out game. The NBA’s blackout guide explains that location is determined from the device’s IP address or, when enabled, location services. A VPN may change the apparent IP location, but the NBA’s published guidance does not establish that this will bypass its checks or guarantee a stream.

The NBA’s League Pass and NBA TV Subscriber Agreement says that attempted circumvention of a blackout or other use restriction can result in immediate subscription termination, a $100 early termination charge, and possible legal action. That provision is from the agreement for subscribers outside the United States; it should not be treated as a universal legal conclusion about every territory or every VPN use.
Why are games blacked out on League Pass?
Blackouts reflect exclusive broadcast rights. The restrictions depend on the viewer’s location and the game’s broadcast, so a League Pass subscription does not mean every game is available live everywhere. The NBA’s blackout guide, updated October 6, 2026, describes the following rules:
#1 Best Overall
- Wilson NBA Authentic Indoor/Outdoor Basketball - Brown, Size 7 - 29.5"
- Dual Depth Technology: A re-engineered channel creates a deeper pocket to improve grip and enhance your feel for the game.
- Moisture Management Cover: Enhanced cover wicks away moisture to create extreme grip, superior flexibility and softer touch
- Ever Bounce: Combines an internal sponge construction, performance windings and balance patch for consistent bounce every time.
- Air Retention: A specialized inflation retention lining creates longer lasting air retention.
| Location | Live League Pass blackout | Where to look instead |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Local NBA team games and nationally broadcast games | For national games, the guide names ESPN, ABC, NBC, Peacock, and Amazon Prime Video. For local games, check the area’s regional sports network. |
| Canada | Nationally broadcast games | The guide names Sportsnet, TSN, CTV, RDS, or Prime Video as possible destinations. |
| Other countries | The guide says every NBA game is available live with League Pass in countries where the service is available, subject to territorial availability. | Check local service availability and the game’s listing. |
Broadcaster availability varies by game, territory, and schedule. The named services are options identified by the NBA, not a guarantee that every one carries a particular matchup in your area.
When do blacked-out games become available on demand?
According to the NBA’s October 6, 2026 blackout guide, U.S. locally televised games become available on demand three days after the broadcast ends. U.S. nationally televised games become available at 6:00 a.m. ET the following day.

How to check where a game is available
- Check the game and your location. In the United States, enter your ZIP code on the League Pass package page to see local-team blackouts. In Canada, consult the Canadian broadcast schedule.
- Identify whether the game is local or nationally broadcast. The blackout category determines which broadcaster or replay timing may apply.
- Confirm the broadcaster’s listing for that game. Use the NBA’s named alternatives as a starting point, then verify the matchup and your territory with the broadcaster.
- Choose the option that fits your viewing needs. Compare live access, replay delay, local versus out-of-market coverage, device support, and the current cost of each service or provider. NBA subscription costs vary by package and region.
League Pass is a subscription service for live and on-demand NBA games, but the package and eligible games depend on market and matchup. The NBA’s global availability page describes where the service is offered; it does not replace checking a specific game’s blackout status.

If your actual location appears to be classified incorrectly, the NBA recommends trying another browser or platform, clearing cache and cookies, reinstalling the NBA app, restarting network equipment, or switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. These steps troubleshoot a location-detection problem; they do not change the game’s blackout eligibility.

Can I watch League Pass on a TV or through a provider?
Yes, the NBA lists the NBA App for Amazon Fire TV and Fire Stick, among other devices, and offers desktop viewing at NBA.com. The full supported-device list also includes iOS, VisionOS, Android, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Hisense, Comcast, Peloton, and selected-country availability for Roku, Xbox One and Series X, and PlayStation 4 and 5. A supported streaming device can make TV playback easier, but it does not alter which games are available in your location. The NBA does not specify a particular Fire TV Stick generation in the cited device list.
The NBA FAQ says League Pass may be available through TV providers. Provider options depend on location and provider; check with the provider and the NBA’s current subscription information before purchasing.

What the NBA’s 2025–26 distribution announcement does—and does not—tell you
The NBA said League Pass continued to offer live out-of-market games through NBA platforms, Prime Video, and TV providers for the 2025–26 season. Its announcement also described that season’s national broadcast schedule involving Disney, NBCUniversal, and Amazon.
