One eligible purchase in the Xbox/Microsoft ecosystem gives you the other version at no additional game price. The catch is significant: Xbox and Windows PC are treated as separate game instances, so MyCAREER, MyTEAM and other progress do not transfer, and the VC wallet is not shared.
What “buy once” means for NBA 2K27
2K’s Windows PC FAQ says all Xbox and Windows PC versions of NBA 2K27 include dual entitlement. After buying an eligible Xbox or Windows entitlement, you can claim and download the counterpart version through the Microsoft Store or Xbox app while signed in to the same Xbox/Microsoft account.

The Windows PC listing through the Microsoft Store and Xbox app is scheduled to become available on October 16, 2026. NBA 2K27’s worldwide launch is September 4, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. The Microsoft-store Windows release therefore has a separate availability date from the initial launch.
This is a digital entitlement rule, not a blanket promise that every physical disc or third-party listing supplies a PC copy. Before buying, confirm that the exact SKU is an Xbox/Microsoft digital version eligible for dual entitlement and that it is sold in your region.

How to claim the other version
- Purchase an eligible entitlement. Use the Xbox/Microsoft storefront and check the edition, platform wording, region and seller. A physical copy should not be assumed to include Windows access unless its listing explicitly says so.
- Use the same Xbox/Microsoft account. Sign in on the Xbox console, Microsoft Store app or Xbox app with the account that owns NBA 2K27.
- Open the counterpart listing. On Windows, search for NBA 2K27 in the Microsoft Store app or Xbox app after the October 16, 2026 availability date. On Xbox, open the game listing associated with the same account.
- Install without paying a second game price. When dual entitlement is recognized, the other platform’s install option appears under the account’s ownership.
- Treat the installs as separate games. Do not expect an Xbox save, MyCAREER build, MyTEAM collection or VC balance to appear in the Windows instance.
Progression and VC: the limitation that matters most
2K states: “The XBOX and Windows PC versions of NBA 2K27 are treated as separate instances, so any progress made on one will not carry over to the other.” In practical terms, starting MyCAREER on Xbox does not let you resume that career on Windows, and MyTEAM progress is likewise separate.
The VC economy is separated as well. The official FAQ says, “The VC wallet isn’t shared between the XBOX and Windows PC versions of NBA 2K27.” VC purchased or earned in one instance should therefore be budgeted for that platform rather than assumed to follow you to the other.

Cross-play is not the same as cross-progression
2K’s cited materials identify Windows PC cross-play with Steam users. They also describe console cross-play between Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Those statements do not establish Xbox-console-to-Windows-PC cross-play.

Editions, preorders and platform-specific bonuses
The preorder FAQ lists Standard, Deluxe and Ultra editions with platform-specific terms. Preorders and similar limited-time offers made on Xbox do not automatically carry over to the Windows PC version.
If you already own Ultra, the FAQ says the Windows entitlement remains Ultra. New Windows purchases described there are limited to Standard or Deluxe. Because bonuses, deadlines and store listings can change, inspect the exact edition page before checkout and save a copy of the purchase confirmation.

Online play and account requirements
Console online play requires a separate paid subscription, according to the official gameplay announcement. Owning NBA 2K27 through dual entitlement does not by itself remove that console-service requirement. Windows players should also use the account associated with the entitlement and meet the PC version’s hardware and service requirements shown in the current Microsoft Store or Xbox app listing.

Common buying mistakes to avoid
- Expecting a shared save: Xbox and Windows instances intentionally keep progression separate.
- Assuming VC follows the account: the wallets are not shared.
- Confusing cross-play with cross-progression: multiplayer compatibility does not merge careers or teams.
- Buying the wrong SKU: verify that the listing is an eligible Xbox/Microsoft digital entitlement, edition and region.
- Assuming Xbox-PC cross-play: official cited materials do not confirm that pairing.
- Expecting Xbox preorder bonuses on Windows: preorder terms and promotional content can be platform-specific.
Bottom line for Xbox and PC buyers
NBA 2K27 is an Xbox Play Anywhere-style buy-once purchase when obtained through an eligible Xbox/Microsoft entitlement: one purchase can provide both the Xbox Series X|S and Microsoft-store Windows PC versions. Plan as if you own two separate game instances, however. Your saves, MyCAREER and MyTEAM progress, and VC wallet do not transfer, while Xbox-console-to-Windows-PC cross-play remains unconfirmed in the cited official information.
