For most players choosing a new basketball game, NBA 2K27 is the current option: it launched on September 4, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. NBA Live 19, released in 2018, is the latest NBA Live product listed on EA’s official page. The choice therefore depends less on a head-to-head new-release contest and more on your hardware, preferred modes and whether you want current online support or a legacy game.
What is the difference between NBA 2K and NBA Live today?
NBA 2K is an active annual basketball-game series; the current release identified in Take-Two’s September 4, 2026 announcement is NBA 2K27. EA’s NBA Live 19 page lists a September 6, 2018 release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox. It is the latest NBA Live product located on EA’s official page, but that fact alone does not establish that EA formally discontinued the series.

The EA page says Xbox but does not specify a generation in the platform listing. It does not establish that NBA Live 19 runs on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S; if you are considering it for newer hardware, verify compatibility for your console and copy before purchase.

Do not assume features announced for an earlier 2K release carry over unchanged. For example, 2K’s documented PS5–Xbox Series X|S online crossplay applies to NBA 2K26, not automatically to NBA 2K27. Check the current game’s platform and crossplay information if playing with friends is a deciding factor.

EA’s NBA Live 19 page highlights The One, League, Street World Tour and ONE COURT, where players can customize rules and lineups. EA also promotes “1v1 Everywhere” and Real Player Motion as gameplay features. These descriptions tell you what EA marketed in the game; they do not demonstrate that its controls, animation or street play are better than NBA 2K27’s.

If you mainly want a franchise, career, card-building, street or quick offline experience, compare the named modes with the kind of session you expect to play. The official feature lists do not provide a controlled comparison of depth, balance or execution, so they cannot settle which game feels better to you.

It lists Play Now, MyNBA/MyLeague/MyGM, 2KU/Learn 2K, MyWNBA and The W as offline modes. The same page schedules NBA 2K26 online services through December 31, 2027; these dates concern those specific games and can change, so check the status page before relying on them.

No comparable EA NBA Live server-retirement notice is established here. Do not assume NBA Live 19 online modes remain available: check current EA and platform service status if online play is the reason you are considering the game. For a longer-term purchase, also weigh whether the listed offline modes cover what you want to keep playing if online features are unavailable.

Which should you choose?
- Pick NBA 2K27 if you want the current release, play on one of its listed platforms, or are interested in its documented mix of career, franchise, team-building, City and WNBA modes.
- Consider NBA Live 19 if you already have compatible hardware and specifically want to play its One, League or Street World Tour experiences. Verify compatibility, current copy availability and online status before spending money.
- Do not choose based on an assumed gameplay winner. Publisher feature pages do not establish which game has more realistic play, better controls, superior graphics, fewer bugs or better value. Current NBA Live price and availability are also not established here; check a seller and the relevant platform before buying.
