The official material supports two firm encounter-specific conclusions: Sasuke is left standing after the first major Final Valley fight, while the final Valley of the End duel is presented as an exhausted, unresolved contest rather than a simple power-ranking victory. Between those events, the evidence describes changing abilities and tactics, not a complete official scorecard.
The fairest comparison therefore asks three questions at each milestone: what power each character could access, how well each used it, and what actually happened when they fought. That method produces a useful progression without turning one battle’s result into a claim about the entire series.

The short answer: Sasuke wins the first Final Valley encounter, but the final duel has no clean stronger character
At the first major Final Valley battle, Sasuke has the encounter result. He advances his Curse Mark, uses his Sharingan to read Naruto’s attacks, and is still standing when Naruto is unconscious. Naruto’s Nine Tails chakra gives him speed, defensive protection, and powerful counterattacks, so the result does not mean Sasuke was universally stronger at every earlier or later point.
At the final duel, both fighters have Six Paths power and deploy their most extreme techniques. Kurama clashes with Susano’o, Sasuke uses gathered Tailed Beast chakra through Susano’o, and Naruto sustains his Kurama transformation with shadow clones. The official account says both exhaust their chakra, continue hand to hand, and spend their last reserves on one final exchange. It does not name a categorical winner by strength.

So the defensible progression is: early rivalry unresolved; first Final Valley, Sasuke by immediate outcome; final Valley of the End, effectively matched and unresolved as a simple ranking. The available official recaps do not establish a winner for every intervening arc or for later states outside this original-series comparison.
What “stronger” should mean in this comparison
“Stronger” can describe several different things in a Naruto fight. Treating them as one statistic creates false certainty, especially because the official material reviewed provides no numeric power levels, multipliers, or complete ranking.
Available power
This is the form of chakra, eye power, transformation, or external reserve available at that exact story point. In the first Final Valley fight, the relevant peaks are Sasuke’s transformed Curse Mark and powered-up Sharingan against Naruto’s Nine Tails chakra. In the finale, both have Six Paths power, while Kurama and Susano’o define the scale of the battle.

A larger reserve is not automatically a better performance. The first-fight retrospective specifically credits Naruto’s cloak with helping him evade attacks, counter with chakra-based techniques, and survive Sasuke’s fire technique. It also describes Sasuke’s Sharingan as helping him predict Naruto’s movements. Those are observable tactical advantages, not a universal statement that one fighter’s abilities always surpass the other’s.
Observed result
The immediate condition at the end of a confrontation matters, but only for that confrontation. Naruto being unconscious while Sasuke remains standing is a strong result for the first Final Valley matchup. The final battle’s shift from depleted techniques to hand-to-hand combat, followed by one last strike from each, is evidence of a prolonged contest rather than a clean knockout-based ranking.
Scope
The official retrospectives cover selected milestones, not every mission, training period, or later-era form. A responsible answer labels unsupported stages as unresolved instead of filling the gaps with invented percentages or fan-made power levels.
Stage-by-stage comparison
| Story point | Naruto | Sasuke | What can be concluded |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early Team 7 rivalry | Developing as a teammate and rival; no official comparative score is supplied. | Developing as a teammate and rival; no official comparative score is supplied. | Unresolved. The rivalry is established, but the reviewed material does not rank them numerically. |
| Hospital rooftop clash | Participates in a sparring match that escalates. | Participates in a sparring match that escalates. | No authoritative winner or lasting strength ranking is stated in the cited retrospective. |
| Sasuke’s departure and the following growth period | Leaves with Jiraiya for training after Sasuke’s departure. | Leaves the Hidden Leaf Village to join Orochimaru. | Different development paths are documented; a point-by-point strength verdict is not. |
| First major Final Valley fight | Uses Nine Tails chakra for speed, counters, and protection; ends unconscious. | Uses the transformed Curse Mark and Sharingan to read attacks; remains standing in a daze. | Sasuke wins this encounter by immediate outcome. |
| Final Valley of the End duel | Uses Six Paths power, Kurama, and shadow clones to maintain the transformation. | Uses Six Paths power, Susano’o, and gathered Tailed Beast chakra. | No simple stronger fighter is declared; the battle is exhausted and unresolved as a ranking. |
The table distinguishes “not established” from “even.” An unresolved early stage means the supplied official summaries do not give enough comparative evidence. The final duel is different: it is explicitly shown as a contest in which both reach their limits, so the lack of a simple verdict is part of the encounter’s description.

Early rivalry: why the story does not provide a reliable ranking
The pair begin as teammates whose rivalry becomes increasingly consequential. The official retrospective describes a pattern that matters more than an early numerical score: competition grows inside Team 7, a hospital rooftop clash escalates from sparring, and Sasuke eventually leaves the Hidden Leaf Village to join Orochimaru. Naruto then sets out with Jiraiya for training after Sasuke’s departure.
Those events show that their development is no longer synchronized. Sasuke chooses a path centered on Orochimaru’s instruction and the power offered by that alliance, while Naruto begins a separate training period with Jiraiya. Comparing them during this stretch requires specific encounters, and the reviewed official account does not provide a complete set of those comparisons.
That is why statements such as “Sasuke was stronger throughout the entire original series” or “Naruto was always stronger because he had the Nine Tails” go beyond the evidence. Their resources, teachers, objectives, and control change. A rivalry can be narratively central without producing an official leaderboard at every chapter.
The hospital rooftop clash
The rooftop scene is useful as a sign of escalation, not as a definitive rating. The retrospective characterizes it as a sparring match that develops into a more dangerous confrontation. Without an official result that establishes a durable superiority, the correct label is unresolved.
The separation and training paths
Sasuke’s departure and Naruto’s decision to train with Jiraiya are turning points in the comparison. They explain why later versions of the characters cannot be judged by the abilities they had as early teammates. They do not, by themselves, prove which student is stronger at every point during the intervening period.
First Final Valley fight: Sasuke takes the encounter
The first major Final Valley fight is the clearest early answer to the question. Sasuke allows his Curse Mark to spread and uses the resulting powered-up Sharingan to read Naruto’s attacks. Naruto draws on the Nine Tails’ chakra, which gives him a cloak that supports rapid evasion, chakra-based counterattacks, and protection against Sasuke’s fire technique.
How the abilities interact
Sasuke’s advantage is predictive control. The Sharingan helps him anticipate Naruto’s attacks, while the Curse Mark increases the level of power he can bring to the exchange. Naruto’s advantage is a combination of speed, resilience, defense, and the ability to answer with concentrated chakra. The fight therefore is not “ordinary Sasuke versus ordinary Naruto”; both are using heightened states.

The official account then has Sasuke advance to the Curse Mark’s second state. Both fighters prepare their signature attacks. This escalation is important because the conclusion follows the strongest forms described in that encounter, rather than a casual opening exchange.

The result
The retrospective ends with Naruto unconscious and Sasuke standing in a daze. On the narrow question “who won that fight?”, the answer is Sasuke. He has the immediate encounter outcome because he is left standing while Naruto cannot continue.
What the result does not prove
It does not establish that Sasuke would defeat Naruto under every set of conditions. Both used special power sources, the fight involved a specific emotional and tactical context, and the result is one milestone in a longer rivalry. It also does not turn Naruto’s Nine Tails cloak into a failed ability: the same account identifies concrete defensive and offensive benefits it provided during the battle.
Sasuke’s statement in context
During the Sasuke Retrieval retrospective, Sasuke declares, “IF THAT’S WHAT YOU THINK, THEN ALL I HAVE TO DO… …IS SEVER THAT BOND!” The line communicates his determination to break from Naruto and the village. It is character dialogue, not an objective narrator’s measurement of comparative strength.
Between the two Final Valley battles: growth is documented, ranking is not
The story clearly presents the later versions as far more powerful than the versions who fought at the first Final Valley. Naruto trains with Jiraiya after Sasuke’s departure, while Sasuke develops under Orochimaru’s influence. Those choices create different techniques, reserves, and tactical habits.

However, the official retrospectives supplied for this comparison do not give a complete winner for each intervening arc. They identify the separation and the divergent training paths, but they do not attach an authoritative score to every later meeting or mission. Any table that assigns “Naruto wins” or “Sasuke wins” to all those unreported stages would be presenting speculation as canon.
The safest interpretation is conditional: at any unlisted point, compare the forms each character can actually access in that scene and look for an observed result. If no such result is supplied, mark the stage unresolved. This approach preserves the story’s progression without pretending that the official material contains a statistic it does not provide.

Final duel: both reach peak powers and run out of answers
The final Valley of the End confrontation is described as a meeting between two fighters much stronger than at their earlier Final Valley battle. Both possess power from the Sage of Six Paths. Naruto uses Kurama, while Sasuke uses Susano’o; the official finale retrospective specifically describes Kurama clashing with Susano’o.
Naruto’s final-duel approach
Naruto maintains his Kurama transformation with the help of shadow clones. That detail matters tactically: his peak state is not presented as a single isolated burst but as a sustained effort supported by multiple bodies. His side of the clash is therefore built around endurance, distributed effort, and Kurama’s direct power.
Sasuke’s final-duel approach
Sasuke turns Susano’o into a vessel for gathered Tailed Beast chakra. Rather than relying only on the basic form of his defensive avatar, he channels a large external reserve through it for the confrontation. The result is a technique designed to meet Naruto’s transformed Kurama power at the same scale.
The battle’s ending
The official birthday retrospective identifies the final showdown with chapters 692–697 in Naruto Volume 72. It says both fighters release their strongest moves and drain their chakra. The match remains unsettled, then continues into hand-to-hand combat. Each draws on a final reserve for one last strike.
That sequence does not support a clean statement that one fighter is simply stronger. It shows two combatants whose largest techniques consume their available chakra and who continue after those techniques are spent. The official summary emphasizes the all-out nature of the contest rather than awarding a universal power title.
Sasuke’s boast is not a narrator’s verdict
In the official finale retrospective, Sasuke says, “ENOUGH. I’M THE STRONGEST IN THIS WORLD NOW. AND THIS WILL BE MY FIRST STEP INTO THE SHADOWS.” The statement is important for understanding his mindset at that point, but it is still a character’s boast. The later description of the duel does not treat the line as a final, objective ranking of Naruto and Sasuke.

If “stronger” means who has the better demonstrated result in the first Final Valley encounter, Sasuke has that answer. If it means who is categorically superior at the end of the story, the official account does not support naming one. Both reach Six Paths-enhanced peaks, both deploy their strongest techniques, and both are pushed into a depleted hand-to-hand continuation.

A more precise final-stage verdict is therefore matched in peak combat capability, with no simple official winner by strength. This is not the same as saying every attribute is identical. Their methods differ: Naruto sustains Kurama through shadow clones, while Sasuke concentrates gathered Tailed Beast chakra through Susano’o. The point is that the official summary does not convert those different methods into a single superiority claim.
How to use the comparison without misleading yourself
Separate a battle result from a permanent ranking
“Sasuke won the first Final Valley fight” is precise. “Sasuke is stronger than Naruto in every form” is not supported by that result. The same rule applies in reverse: the final duel’s unresolved exhaustion cannot be used to erase the earlier encounter’s clear outcome.
Name the form before comparing the fighter
Say “Naruto using Nine Tails chakra” or “Sasuke in the transformed Curse Mark state,” rather than discussing an abstract Naruto or Sasuke. For the finale, identify Six Paths power, Kurama, Susano’o, shadow clones, and gathered Tailed Beast chakra. Forms determine what each character can actually do.

No authoritative numeric strength statistic, multiplier, or complete official ranking is supplied for this comparison. Percentages and made-up scales may be useful for fan discussion, but they should not be presented as official measurements.
Keep manga and anime identifiers separate
The final confrontation is tied by the official site to Naruto Volume 72, chapters 692–697. That is a manga volume and chapter reference, not an anime episode number. Readers using different editions or adaptations should not treat those identifiers as interchangeable.
Where to read the final confrontation
For the manga version of the concluding battle, the official identification is Naruto Volume 72, containing chapters 692–697. That reference is useful because it points to the complete final showdown rather than an isolated panel or a fan-compiled power list. A character-data book may provide additional background, but its catalog listing alone does not establish a reliable Naruto-versus-Sasuke ranking, so it should not be treated as proof of one.
What the official material does—and does not—settle
It settles the immediate result of the first major Final Valley fight: Naruto is unconscious and Sasuke is standing. It establishes that the final duel involves Six Paths power, Kurama, Susano’o, the strongest techniques of both fighters, depleted chakra, and a continuation into close combat. It also documents the rivalry’s early escalation, Sasuke’s departure, and Naruto’s subsequent training with Jiraiya.

It does not settle a winner for every arc, provide a complete original-series strength chart, supply numeric multipliers, or establish a universal ranking that extends automatically into every later state. Those boundaries are part of an accurate answer, not a weakness in it.
Final verdict
At the first Final Valley, Sasuke is stronger in the only sense the result can prove: he wins that encounter and remains standing. At the final Valley of the End, Naruto and Sasuke are presented as peak-level equals in an all-out fight that drains both of them; the official account does not declare one categorically stronger. For the stages between those battles, the responsible label is unresolved unless a specific, documented encounter supplies a result.
