The complete manga reading order
There is one straightforward order for the main Naruto-era manga. The only decision is whether to include The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring, a short transition story between the original series and Boruto.

The official Naruto site describes Two Blue Vortex as the second part after Next Generations, and VIZ catalogs the two Boruto titles separately. There is no alternate order in which Two Blue Vortex should be read before Next Generations.
1. Start with Naruto Chapters 1–700
Read the original Naruto manga from Chapter 1 through Chapter 700. This is the foundation for every later manga in the franchise: it establishes Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, their village, the shinobi system and the relationships that drive the next-generation stories.

VIZ’s franchise catalog lists the original series through Chapter 700. Its Boruto series information says Naruto concluded in late 2014. Do not stop at a partial arc or switch to a Boruto title after the main conflict appears resolved; Chapter 700 is the numbered endpoint of the original manga.
Why the full 700 chapters matter
Later stories assume that you know both the major battles and the political and family changes that occur near the end of Naruto. The final chapters also establish the adult generation and the children who become central in Scarlet Spring and Boruto. Reading all 700 chapters avoids learning those developments through summaries or flashbacks.
2. Add Scarlet Spring if you want the transition story
Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring is optional, not a missing chapter of the original series. It is a separate Kishimoto-written-and-drawn manga focused on the next generation, including Naruto’s son Boruto and Sasuke’s daughter Sarada.
Recommended Free Tools
Read it after Chapter 700 and before Boruto: Naruto Next Generations if you want a compact bridge between the two eras. Skipping it will not prevent you from understanding where the original series ends or where Boruto begins.
What the bridge adds
- It introduces the next-generation cast in a story written specifically for that transition.
- It gives additional context for Sarada and the changing relationships among the former central characters.
- It provides a faster handoff from the original manga’s ending to the world used by Boruto.
Edition details
VIZ’s paperback listing is 216 pages and carries ISBN-13 978-1-4215-8493-5. Licensed digital availability and print editions vary by territory, so check the catalog for your region. The title may also be listed without the longer subtitle in some store searches; use the full title when distinguishing it from the main Naruto volumes.

Should you skip it?
Choose the bridge if you want the most complete manga-only path and do not mind adding one standalone volume. Skip it if your priority is reaching the Boruto storyline immediately after Chapter 700. There is no continuity penalty for either choice because Next Generations supplies the information needed to follow its own opening.
3. Continue with Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapters 1–80
After Naruto (and optionally Scarlet Spring), read Boruto: Naruto Next Generations from Chapter 1 through Chapter 80. Treat these 80 chapters as the first complete part of the Boruto manga.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →VIZ currently identifies Chapter 80 as the latest chapter of Next Generations and lists Volume 20 as its final collected volume. That endpoint is why a reader who reaches Chapter 80 should not search for Chapter 81 under the same title; the continuation is published as Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.
Why the title changes
The two Boruto manga parts are cataloged separately because the story moves into a new phase. The second title is not a side series or an optional spin-off. It is the continuation of the first part, so reading order follows the publication structure: all of Next Generations, then all available chapters of Two Blue Vortex.
Credit precision
VIZ credits Masashi Kishimoto with creation and supervision on Next Generations, Mikio Ikemoto with art, and Ukyo Kodachi with the script credit. Describing the series as a manga solely written and drawn by Kishimoto is therefore inaccurate. Kishimoto’s role is important, but the official credits distinguish creation and supervision from the script and art work.

4. Begin Boruto: Two Blue Vortex after Chapter 80
Once you finish Chapter 80 of Next Generations, start Boruto: Two Blue Vortex at Chapter 1. The official Naruto retrospective explicitly presents it as Part Two and directs readers from the first Boruto part into this continuation.
VIZ’s catalog page checked for this guide listed Two Blue Vortex through Chapter 37, dated September 17, and showed a Volume 6 listing. Those figures are a dated catalog snapshot, not a permanent worldwide chapter count. Release schedules, collected editions and digital access can differ by territory and can change as new chapters and volumes appear.
Do not restart the story
Some readers assume a new title means they should return to Chapter 1 of the entire franchise. Instead, restart only at Two Blue Vortex Chapter 1 after completing Next Generations Chapter 80. Reading earlier Boruto chapters again is optional rereading, not a requirement created by the title change.
Credits on Part Two
VIZ lists Kishimoto for creation and supervision and Ikemoto as the artist for Two Blue Vortex. Those credits explain why the series belongs to the Naruto franchise while still being a collaborative production rather than a solo Kishimoto manga.
Where the newly announced Kishimoto manga fits
At New York Comic Con on October 10, 2026, the franchise announced a new Naruto manga drawn by Masashi Kishimoto. The official announcement displayed the teaser wording, A new “Naruto” manga drawn by Masashi Kishimoto, and showed storyboards. It also said that more details would be revealed at Jump Festa 2027 on December 19–20, 2026.

As of the official information available on October 13, 2026, the announcement does not establish:
- an official English or Japanese title;
- a publication or launch date;
- whether the project is a continuing serial, a limited series or a one-shot;
- its chapter or volume length;
- its exact position relative to Naruto, Next Generations and Two Blue Vortex.
That means the practical reading order ends with the available Two Blue Vortex chapters. Do not insert the announced project before Two Blue Vortex, after it or between individual chapters until an official publisher or franchise announcement provides a timeline. Reports using an unconfirmed expanded title, including “Naruto: Shadow Rising,” should not be treated as established naming.
What the announcement does confirm
The project is a real, officially announced Naruto manga associated with Kishimoto, rather than a rumor or fan-made continuation. The announcement confirms the creator connection and the existence of teaser material, but it does not yet provide enough information to read it or classify it within the sequence.
Choosing the best path for your goal
| Your goal | Recommended path | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Experience the complete core manga | Naruto 1–700 → Scarlet Spring → Next Generations 1–80 → Two Blue Vortex | Includes the optional bridge and every currently defined manga part |
| Reach Boruto as quickly as possible | Naruto 1–700 → Next Generations 1–80 → Two Blue Vortex | Removes the standalone transition volume without changing the main order |
| Collect the story in print | Complete the original volumes, then Next Generations through Volume 20, followed by available Two Blue Vortex volumes | Matches the collected-edition structure; availability depends on region |
| Start with the newest material | Only begin Two Blue Vortex after reading Next Generations 1–80 | Part Two assumes the events and status changes of Part One |
| Wait for the new Kishimoto project | Finish the established sequence first and monitor the official announcement | The project’s title, format and chronology are not confirmed yet |
Common reading-order mistakes
Mistake: treating Scarlet Spring as mandatory
It is an official bridge, but it is not required to cross from Naruto into Boruto. Calling it mandatory overstates its role.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMistake: jumping from Naruto directly to Two Blue Vortex
Two Blue Vortex is Part Two. Skipping all of Next Generations removes the first Boruto part and leaves major developments unexplained.
Best Value
- Viz Media
- The world’s most popular ninja comic
- Naruto is a young shinobi with an incorrigible knack for mischief.
Mistake: searching for Chapter 81 under the first Boruto title
The first part ends at Chapter 80 in VIZ’s current listing. Continue under the separate Two Blue Vortex title instead.
Mistake: calling Kishimoto the sole author of both Boruto parts
The official credits identify Ikemoto’s art on both Boruto titles and Kodachi’s script credit on Next Generations. Use the published credit roles when describing who made each manga.
Mistake: treating a regional catalog as universal
VIZ’s English-language catalog is region-sensitive. Chapter access, digital licensing, paperback stock and volume dates may differ in another country. A chapter number shown on one regional page is not proof that every reader has the same availability on the same day.
A practical checklist before you start
- Confirm that your edition of Naruto includes Chapters 1–700.
- Decide whether the 216-page Scarlet Spring bridge fits your preferred pace.
- Finish Boruto: Naruto Next Generations through Chapter 80 or Volume 20.
- Switch to the separately cataloged Boruto: Two Blue Vortex and begin at Chapter 1.
- Check the local VIZ catalog or licensed retailer for the latest chapter and volume availability.
- Keep the new Kishimoto announcement separate until Jump Festa 2027 supplies its title, format and release information.
How to track future updates without losing your place
Record the last completed title and chapter rather than relying only on a volume number. For example, “Next Generations Chapter 80 complete; Two Blue Vortex not started” identifies the exact handoff point even if a local edition combines or renumbers material.
When the new Kishimoto manga receives an official title and schedule, look first for a publisher or franchise announcement that states its relationship to the existing series. If it is announced as a prequel, side story or one-shot, it may belong at a different point than a direct continuation. Until that wording appears, the only confirmed sequence is the four-step path ending with the currently available Two Blue Vortex chapters.
