To play it, the guide calls for Doom II’s Doom2.WAD, GZDoom, and that PK3 file. The mod’s appeal is how an ordinary house map turns into a shifting, unsettling exploration; if you want to discover its surprises yourself, stop here after the setup section.
What you need to play MyHouse
PC Gamer’s March 20, 2023 guide lists three components. Its directions reflect the versions and download location reported at that time; check the current Doomworld release post and GZDoom requirements before following them, as the available sources do not establish current compatibility or download availability.

- Doom2.WAD: The data file from a PC retail copy of Doom II. If you already own a compatible PC copy, the guide does not suggest buying it again.
- GZDoom: The Doom engine source port used to run the mod.
- MyHouse.pk3: The mod file, which the 2023 guide says was in the Files folder of Veddge’s Google Drive.
The relevant distinction is in the extension: the guide says to load MyHouse.pk3, not MyHouse.wad. “MyHouse.wad” is the familiar title, but it is not the file the cited setup instructions tell players to launch.
Launch steps in the 2023 guide
- Place
Doom2.WADandMyHouse.pk3together in the GZDoom folder. - Drag
MyHouse.pk3ontoGZDoom.exeto launch it. - Choose OpenGL or Vulkan rendering rather than Software mode. The guide warns that some effects may break in Software mode.
These are the guide’s 2023 instructions, not a confirmation that today’s GZDoom builds, download links, or settings are unchanged.

Why the mod is still compelling
Steve “Veddge” Nelson shared the mod on Doomworld in March 2023. PC Gamer describes it as an expanded take on an older “my own house but full of demons” map credited to a friend. It begins with the recognizable idea of a house level, then makes space itself feel unreliable: rooms change, routes are hidden, and apparent endings can mislead.
That shift from familiar architecture to disorienting exploration is the central pleasure. Instead of simply clearing rooms, players have to notice what has changed and question whether the route ahead is as straightforward as it looks. The 2023 feature characterizes the result as horror with an unsettling, almost haunted atmosphere; that is a review impression, not a literal claim about the software.

Spoiler warning: the kinds of places it visits
The examples below reveal some of the mod’s escalation. Skip this section if you would rather encounter its turns unprepared. PC Gamer’s feature mentions a burning house, a brutalist hellscape, an airport, a maze-like Backrooms sequence, and a return to Doom II’s Underhalls. Those contrasting settings help the experience feel less like a conventional house map and more like a journey through spaces that refuse to stay put.

No. The name “Navidson Realty” points toward Mark Z. Danielewski’s novel House of Leaves, whose Navidson home is labyrinthine and otherworldly. The book is optional context for readers interested in the allusion; it is not a prerequisite for installing or playing the mod.
