A blank or stale Samsung Find map does not mean the theft did not happen. A Galaxy S22+ must have power, a usable Wi‑Fi or mobile-data connection, the correct Samsung account, and finding permissions enabled for Samsung Find or SmartThings Find to report a current location. A thief can remove the SIM, disable connectivity, switch the phone off, leave it offline, or reset it. Use Samsung Find and Google Find Hub from a safe device, lock the phone, contact your carrier and police, and secure your accounts before deciding whether to erase it.
What to do immediately
- Open both finding services. From a trusted phone or computer, sign in to Samsung Find (or SmartThings Find where that label still appears) and Google Find Hub. Check the last known location, try the locate or refresh command, and issue a remote lock. Add a message and a callback number to the lock screen, but do not include sensitive information.
- Do not visit the map location. Samsung’s safety instruction is explicit: “If you are using SmartThings Find or Samsung Find to locate a stolen phone or tablet, do not go directly to the location on the map. Inform the authorities and let them retrieve it for you.” A location can be stale, approximate or associated with a dangerous situation.
- Call your mobile carrier. Suspend the physical SIM or eSIM, ask whether the carrier can block the phone by IMEI, and arrange replacement service. IMEI blocking is carrier- and country-dependent, so ask what is actually supported on your account.
- File a police report. Give officers the IMEI and serial number, your account of the theft, and any location information from the finding services. Android’s guidance says the IMEI may be printed on the original box or available in Google account or device records.
- Protect your accounts. Change the Samsung and Google account passwords first, then secure the email, banking, payment, password-manager and social accounts that were signed in on the phone. Sign out of the stolen device from account-security pages where that option is available, and review recent login activity.
- Contact insurance or the retailer. Theft coverage, deductibles, deadlines and required documents depend on your policy and country. Keep the police report and carrier case number for the claim.
Why Samsung Find may show no location
Samsung Find is not an independent beacon inside the handset. It depends on the S22+ being associated with the Samsung account you are using, powered on, and able to communicate through Wi‑Fi or mobile data. The relevant “allow this phone to be found” and related permissions must also have been enabled before the theft. Service availability can vary by country, region and carrier.

The phone is powered off or has a dead battery
When the S22+ is switched off or its battery is depleted, it cannot provide a live position. You may see only an older location, or no location at all. A later appearance on the map is possible if someone turns it on and it reconnects, provided the account and finding settings remain intact.

Connectivity was removed
Removing the SIM does not automatically make the handset untrackable, because Wi‑Fi could still provide a connection. However, a thief can also disable Wi‑Fi and mobile data, keep the phone in an area without service, or place it in a shielded environment. In those cases Samsung Find cannot receive a new position.

Finding permissions or account access were not ready
If the phone was never enrolled in the Samsung account you are checking, or the required finding permission was off, the service has nothing to query. A reset, account removal or other setup change can also break the association. Regional and carrier differences can affect which controls appear.
A reset ended the connection
A factory reset removes the phone’s user data and account state. Samsung’s 2025 theft-protection announcement says that once remote erasure resets a device, it can no longer be located or controlled through Samsung Find.

Locking, tracking and erasing: choose the right order

For that reason, try locating and locking first, then suspend the line and report the IMEI. Delay erasure only if the potential recovery value outweighs the privacy risk of leaving data on the device. If highly sensitive information is exposed or the phone is likely to remain inaccessible, erasing is the safer priority; accept that Samsung Find control will end after the reset.
Secure the information that was on the S22+
Start with identity and recovery accounts
Change passwords for the Samsung and Google accounts and make sure their recovery email addresses and phone numbers are still yours. Revoke sessions or trusted-device access for the stolen handset where the account dashboard allows it. Turn on multifactor authentication using a device or method the thief cannot access.

Check financial and communications services
Call banks and payment providers if cards or wallet credentials were available on the phone. Freeze or replace cards when advised, inspect transactions, and change the password for the primary email account before changing less critical services. Ask your carrier about number-transfer or SIM-swap protections.

Enable Samsung and Google protections
- In Samsung settings, enable Lost device protection and every available option that permits the phone to be found, reports a last location or extends discovery while offline.
- In Google’s theft-protection settings, enable Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock and Remote Lock when those controls appear on your S22+.
- Keep a screen lock, biometric protection and current security updates enabled. Store recovery codes somewhere other than the phone.
Labels and menu paths can differ by software build and country. After changing a setting, verify from another device that the phone appears in the appropriate Samsung and Google dashboards.
Use a tracker before a loss
A Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 can be attached to a bag, case or other item you carry. Samsung’s ecosystem documentation describes SmartTag-series and offline-finding support for tagged items. The tag must be attached and paired before the item goes missing; it cannot retroactively track a tagless stolen S22+.

What the failed map result does—and does not—prove
It proves only that the service did not receive a usable location under the conditions at that moment. It does not establish that the phone was never stolen, that the IMEI is invalid, or that a later connection is impossible. Continue checking after the carrier suspension and police report, but do not confront anyone or attempt a private recovery.
